Estimating housing capacity of SHLAA
sites
Potential housing capacity has been estimated
based on the proposed density standard set
out in the Allerdale Core Strategy of 30
dwellings per hectare.
Meeting the housing growth target set out
in the Allerdale Core Strategy
The Core Strategy sets out housing growth
target of 4560 dwellings over the plan period
2011-2026.

Table xx illustrates that based on a density of
30 dwellings per hectare the sum of the
capacity of the sites included in the SHLAA is
11375 dwellings.
Therefore, the cumulative capacity of the
SHLAA sites exceeds the proposed housing
target.

of the proposed settlement hierarchy
Although the cumulative capacity of the
SHLAA sites exceeds the housing target set, it
must be demonstrated that these sites are
located in right places in order to establish that
the spatial strategy is achievable.

support the spatial strategy..
