Sustainable <strong>City</strong> Action 2.2.1: Regularly communicate the <strong>City</strong> Council’s<br />

vision and direction. For example, prominently display the <strong>City</strong>’s annual<br />

goals in <strong>City</strong> Hall and on the website and contribute articles or press<br />

releases to the local papers about <strong>City</strong> decisions and priorities.<br />

Sustainable <strong>City</strong> Action 2.2.2: Update as necessary the roles and<br />

responsibilities <strong>of</strong> each <strong>City</strong> committee, board and commission and post<br />

the information on the <strong>City</strong>’s website. Assign each group actions from the<br />

comprehensive plan that they can work on to help achieve the<br />

community’s goals and track their progress via annual reports to the <strong>City</strong><br />

Council.<br />

Sustainable <strong>City</strong> Action 2.2.3: Use a variety <strong>of</strong> communication tools<br />

(internet, television, word <strong>of</strong> mouth, newspapers and newsletters, utility<br />

bills, etc.) to help make the community aware <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong>’s plans and<br />

opportunities to become involved and to solicit feedback. Ensure that the<br />

<strong>City</strong>’s website is updated regularly and that minutes from <strong>City</strong> Council,<br />

committee and commission meetings on the <strong>City</strong> website are posted in a<br />

timely manner. Also ensure that the feedback is responded to in a timely<br />

manner. All information should be timely, clear, concise, visually<br />

appealing and jargon-free.<br />

Sustainable <strong>City</strong> Action 2.2.4: Consider creating a community email list as<br />

a means to communicate with people and expand and maintain <strong>City</strong><br />

contact lists. Also explore other communication methods – Facebook,<br />

Twitter, RSS Feeds, etc.<br />

Sustainable <strong>City</strong> Action 2.2.5: Work with Teller County to explore ways to<br />

<strong>of</strong>fer interactive Geographic Information Systems (GIS) maps to enable<br />

businesses and citizens to access and transact with the <strong>City</strong> quickly and<br />

reliably.<br />

Sustainable <strong>City</strong> Action 2.2.6: Ask the community for input as to how to<br />

diversify the <strong>City</strong>’s revenue sources and ensure that the community’s<br />

finances are stable when the area reaches build out.<br />

Sustainable <strong>City</strong> Action 2.3.1: Proactively seek public input and respond<br />

to comments by promoting opportunities to join committees and<br />

commissions, volunteering for community events and seeking comments<br />

on the <strong>City</strong> budget and priorities. Advertise these opportunities on the<br />

<strong>City</strong>’s website, in mass emails, on utility bills and via press releases.<br />

Sustainable <strong>City</strong> Action 2.3.2: Identify barriers to full participation in the<br />

community and access to amenities and services, including public<br />

transportation which makes access possible. Work with Department<br />

Heads to raise awareness <strong>of</strong> these barriers and develop innovative<br />

strategies to remove them.<br />
