Opening Day Details<br />

ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS<br />

• Classes begin at 9:00 a.m. or at regular opening times. French Immersion Classes in Sault Ste. Marie begin at 9:25 a.m.<br />

• Junior <strong>and</strong> Senior Kindergarten <strong>students</strong> will begin as instructed by the <strong>school</strong>. Parents of kindergarten <strong>students</strong> not yet<br />

registered should contact the public <strong>school</strong> in their neighbourhood or call 705-945-7235 <strong>to</strong> find out which <strong>school</strong> their child<br />

should attend.<br />

• Most <strong>school</strong> offices are will be open from August 31. Call the <strong>school</strong> ahead for specific dates <strong>and</strong> times.<br />

• New <strong>students</strong> may register prior <strong>to</strong> <strong>school</strong> opening on above dates. Updated immunization records, health card number, birth<br />

certificate <strong>and</strong> copy of report card from previous <strong>school</strong> attended (if applicable), are required.<br />

SECONDARY SCHOOLS<br />

• Most Secondary School offices will be open from August 29 th . Please call ahead <strong>to</strong> confirm.<br />

• New <strong>students</strong> may register prior <strong>to</strong> <strong>school</strong> opening after August 29 th . Updated immunization records, health card number, birth<br />

ALGOMA EDUCATION CONNECTIONS – SAULT STE. MARIE ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMS<br />

Students may register in any of the alternative programs listed below from August 29 th until September 2nd from 10 a.m. <strong>to</strong> 2:00<br />

p.m. Appointments should be made by calling 705-945-7194. Students will need a credit counselling summary, a birth certificate<br />

<strong>and</strong> a health card <strong>to</strong> register. Please call ahead <strong>to</strong> ensure that a <strong>staff</strong> member is available or visit Prince Charles <strong>and</strong> meet with the<br />

Principal of the program.<br />

All <strong>students</strong>, including Grade 9, will meet in the Cafeteria at 8:53 am. Student names <strong>and</strong> their homerooms will be posted at the<br />

back of the cafeteria. Students will follow a shortened schedule with dismissal at 11:15 am. Busses will arrive at the regular time<br />

(3:00 pm). New <strong>students</strong> may register from August 29 th until Sept 2nd from 8:30 am <strong>to</strong> 1:00 pm.<br />

Returning Students will owe Student Activity Fee $5.00 <strong>and</strong> if they didn't h<strong>and</strong> in their lock they will owe an additional $5.00.<br />

New <strong>students</strong> will owe $5.00 for Student Activity Fee <strong>and</strong> $5.00 for Lock


CENTRAL ALGOMA SECONDARY SCHOOL 705-782-6263<br />

GRADE 9s: All Grade 9 <strong>students</strong> will attend on Wednesday, August 31 for their Orientation from 8:30 <strong>to</strong> 11:30 am. Parents are<br />

asked <strong>to</strong> please drop-off <strong>and</strong> pick-up their <strong>students</strong> at the respective elementary <strong>school</strong>s at the following times:<br />

• Bus #1 –Leaves Thessalon Elementary at 8:00 am <strong>and</strong> Arthur Henderson at 8:20 am. Departs from CASS at 11:30am, s<strong>to</strong>ps at<br />

Arthur Henderson at 11:45am, arrives at Thessalon by 12:00 pm.<br />

• Bus #2 –Leaves St. Joseph Isl<strong>and</strong> Elementary at 8:00 am <strong>and</strong> Johnson Elementary at 8:20 am. Departs from CASS at 11:30 am,<br />

s<strong>to</strong>ps at Johnson Elementary at 11:40 am, Kent’s Corner at 11:55 am, arrives at St. Joseph Isl<strong>and</strong> Public School by 12:05 pm.<br />

• Bus #3 –Leaves Echo Bay Elementary at 8:00 am <strong>and</strong> Laird Elementary at 8:20 am. Departs from CASS at 11:30 am, s<strong>to</strong>ps at<br />

Laird at 11:50 am, arrives at Echo Bay at 12:00 pm.<br />

GRADES 10 <strong>to</strong> 12: All Grade 10 <strong>to</strong> 12 <strong>students</strong> will report <strong>to</strong> homeroom at 8:45am on Tuesday, September 6. Classes will<br />

follow a shortened schedule with buses leaving at 12:00 noon.<br />

New <strong>students</strong>: Register between August 30 <strong>and</strong> September 1 between 8:00 am <strong>and</strong> 1:00 pm.<br />

Student Activity Fee: Grade 9s - $15.00 including locks, Grade 10s <strong>to</strong> 12s - $10.00 with lock.<br />

School begins with an assembly at 9:00 a.m. for all <strong>students</strong> on Tuesday, Sept. 6th. Dismissal is at 12:00 noon. Buses will<br />

depart from the <strong>school</strong> at 12:20 pm. New <strong>students</strong> may register Aug. 29 th <strong>to</strong> Sept. 2nd. Appointments may be made starting<br />

ELLIOT LAKE SECONDARY SCHOOL 705-848-7162<br />

Students who have pre-registered including all returning <strong>students</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>students</strong> entering grade 9 from an ELSS feeder <strong>school</strong> will<br />

pick up their timetables on September 1 st during the following times: 9:00 am <strong>to</strong> 11:00 am; 1:00 pm <strong>to</strong> 3:00 pm; <strong>and</strong> 6:30 pm <strong>to</strong><br />

7:30 pm. Any student who is <strong>new</strong> <strong>to</strong> the area should call the <strong>school</strong> during the week of August 29 th <strong>to</strong> September 2 nd <strong>to</strong> make an<br />

appointment. The first day of classes is Tuesday, September 6th from 10:00 am <strong>to</strong> 12:30 pm for <strong>students</strong> in grades 10 through<br />

12. Grade 9 <strong>students</strong> will participate in orientation until 3:00 pm <strong>and</strong> begin their day at 10:00 am with all other <strong>students</strong>.<br />

White Pines grades 7, 8, 9 “Wolverine Meet <strong>and</strong> Greet” will be held on Thursday September 1, 2011 from 10:00 am until<br />

12:00 in the <strong>school</strong> foyer. All grade 7, 8, 9 <strong>students</strong> are invited <strong>to</strong> attend <strong>and</strong> should bring $30.00 <strong>to</strong> purchase a student kit<br />

which will include a lock, your student activity fee, <strong>and</strong> spirit wear (optional). All <strong>students</strong> are encouraged <strong>to</strong> reserve their award<br />

winning, nationally recognized full colour 2011 - 2012 White Pines Yearbook - The Sceptre for an additional $50. Lunch will be<br />
