The Church holds a special place in the hearts
of many Windellama locals and is one of our
Historic Landmarks.
It was wonderful to see the grounds brought
back to such a clean and tidy state. It was a
great effort by all the gardeners and it is truly
welcomed by many in the wider Windellama
Community.
Thieves in the area
Keep on the look out for 2 utes (1 red, 1
cream) that aren't supposed to be on your road
or cars with trailers. Trailer number plates are
usually useless so grab the car plates if you
can. These ute owners are thought to be from
Goulburn area, they drive onto your property,
but turn around if they see that someone is
home.
Goulburn Mulwaree Council has launched a
facebook page to keep residents up to date in
real time. They will be posting all notices, news
and happenings as they happen so that
everyone gets information and has a chance to
respond with feedback. Council is always
interested in community feedback and
consultation so we will be offering as much
information as possible via facebook in addition
to traditional media and mail notifications.
GOULBURN WORKERS CLUB
ANNUAL ART PRIZE
EXHIBITION & SALE OF ART
The Goulburn and District Art Society and
Goulburn Workers Club are holding the annual
art prize at the Goulburn Workers Club in late
September.
The opening night is at 6.30pm Thursday 26th
September and the exhibition is open 10am –
4pm on Friday 27th to Sunday 29th
September.
The Annual Art Prize always attracts hundreds
of entries from artists locally and elsewhere in
the state. Each year there are a large number
of high quality works all of which are for sale. It
is an ideal exhibition to visit to not only view art
works but also to buy works for your home, for
gifts and for your work place.
The opening night is a good social occasion
where visitors can view the art, enjoy the
delightful nibbles and a wine all for only a $5
entry fee. It is not essential to let the art
society know you are coming to the opening
night but it helps for catering if you RSVP by
phoning Lesley: 0417 240 595 or Helen: 4829
2300.
A raffle with an art-work prize will raise funds
for The Crescent School, Goulburn.
WINDELLAMA PROGRESS ASSOC. HALL Inc.
It has been a relatively quiet month since the last report. The Garden Group hosted their annual
Cancer Day at the hall and a great day was had by all. A wonderful sum of money was raised and
presented to the local Can Assist group again this year.
The Progress Association lodged an objection to the proposal by Ardmore Park Quarry to
transport its products via our local roads. Submissions closed on August 9th and we are awaiting
the decision to be made by the Department of Planning. Goulburn Mulwaree Council voted by a
majority of 7 to 1 to support the resident’s objections and lodged an objection to the proposal. It is
now just a waiting game. At our most recent meeting, a vote of thanks was moved (and carried
unanimously) in respect to the help given to us by the Bungonia Progress Association in preparing
our submission. Their assistance was invaluable.
We have received our recurrent funding of $2,000 from Council. We have used this money to
purchase a new gas stove for the kitchen and the volunteers who have been using it for the
various functions we have catered are most impressed. We wish to thank Council for this help
which is very much appreciated.
Our 20th anniversary Field Day is fast approaching and plans are well in hand. We are looking
forward to a bigger and better day this year and hope the community will assist again with
preparations and help on the day, as it always has over the past twenty years.
The committee of Windellama Progress Association meets on the third Monday of each month at
2 p.m. at the hall. Members of the community are most welcome to join us.
Next meeting will be held on Monday 16th September.
August so far has been rather quiet on the CFR front, very pleasing to our people. October will
see the next training for our new recruits for the Unit, God bless 'em. We had to have our
recertification for Resuscitation last Monday night. I am sure that some of you out there would like
to learn more in this type of activity, so come and join our "team".
Our new premise is still in the final stages of being finished, a few minor details still being rectified.
Some tiling has been done, with the ablutions block being put in. Painting of that is still to be done.
Nerriga Gardeners
Thank you Robyn & Justin for your hospitality.
We had a good day, even though one member
may be taking on full time work soon & we will
miss her. So many camellias looking good!
On Wednesday 18th September at 10am we will
be having a working bee at Nerriga Hall where we
will hopefully create a garden. Please being any
plants that you may think grow with absolutely
minimal care and the appropriate tools.
Please bring a plate to share for lunch. All are
welcome. For further info just ring Kay Hamer
Willowglen Gardeners
http://www.whispersfromwillowglen.blogspot.com
We met on a very cold and windy day at Pam
Hibbert's place for a working bee in her garden.
We had a good turn up and after a short
meeting we were pruning protea bushes,
digging the vegie garden and weeding around
the steps.
We were all rugged up against the sleet, but
the sun was trying to shine. Pam had the
house nice and warm and we came in for a
cuppa and something to eat to sustain us
against the weather.
The garden is very large and although we
didn't get to put everything right, we made a
dent in it and I'm sure Pam was pleased with
the effort and overall achievement. I know
there were quite a lot of barrow loads of weeds
and pruning cuttings stacked up at the end.
Many thanks to all the workers who attended
on a very gusty day.
Our next Garden Club is at Riversdale on
3rd September. 1 Maud Street, Goulburn.
Morning tea is available at Riversdale @ $5 –
Devonshire Teas, 1 scone tea or coffee, or
Cake or slice, tea or coffee $6.
Tours also available – Garden tour $4,
The CanAssist Fundraiser
Our club is being congratulated on the great
day we had, very successful money wise, but
it was not us alone. We had lots of donations
of a variety of cakes, the meat & bread rolls
were donated also.
To the people who came and supported us
and gave a helping hand, spending money on
our stall, chocolate wheel, food and raffle, a
big thank you.
Thanks also to Windellama Progress for the
use of the hall on the day.
Graeme Welsh did a wonderful job with the
cake auction, awarding trophies for the highest
bidder, the person who baked that cake, and
the best decorated; a novel idea and we thank
him.
We raised over $3,000 and our club added to
this to give CanAssist a cheque for $3,500.
Windellama Landcare
My, how time flies when you are hibernating!
Windellama Landcare is still in a state of
hibernation for another month – but we’ve been
dreaming up new plans for work parties: so,
when the ground dries out a little, we will be
finishing the work at the Chain of ponds (have
you seen the new sign?) with a new fence on
the western side of the Ponds ….zzzzzzzz
Contributions wanted
If you have something you wish to share with
the community which is general in nature, let
us know at:
newswindellama@gmail.com
Or just telephone the editors
The Windellama Garden Club held the Annual
Cancer Day Appeal, all proceeds going to
Can Assist, the Goulburn branch, all monies
raised go to local people of Goulburn and
district. Volunteers run that organisation, so
your money is not wasted on administration.
I would like to, on behalf of our members,
thank those who donated food and all other
items most sincerely. I am reluctant to thank
people individually, but with one exception, and
that is Judy Yates, who helped us out in the
food servery, this is community spirit at it's
best.
This happened to be one of our most profitable
days so far.
A prickly problem
Prickly pear Opuntia spp is the weed of the
month for August. The common prickly pear -
Opuntia stricta is pictured here as one of the
class 4 noxious weed species in Goulburn
Mulwaree Council. There are many different
varieties of prickly pear and it can be
challenging to tell them apart.
Common prickly pear is an erect perennial
shrub to 1.5 metres. It has 6 cm wide yellow
flowers from late spring to summer and purple
fruit when it’s ripe. This weed also has
distinguishing clusters of small sharp bristles
in depressions on the fleshy segments and
fruit.
All prickly pear species can spread quickly and
take over large areas of land. Management is
difficult and requires an integration of
biological control options, manual removal
and/or herbicide application. We are lucky in
Goulburn to not have any known infestations
and let’s keep it that way. Council asks that
you dispose of prickly pear appropriately as
segments can survive for several years and
then take root again.
The problem with prickly pear is its
competitiveness with pasture and native
vegetation as it limits the growth of small
shrubs and groundcover species. The plant’s
sharp spines or barbs can cause injury to
stock and native animals, contaminate wool
and hides, reduce or prevent grazing activities
and reduce overall productivity.
Large stands of prickly pear also provide
harbour for pest animals, such as foxes and
rabbits and, due to their spiny nature, can limit
access for stock mustering and recreational
activities.
For more information on identifying and
controlling common prickly pear get a copy of
foyer, Goulburn Mulwaree
Teaching Compassion and
Empathy towards Animals
With a huge Thank You to Voiceless who
Peanuts Funny Farm is working with a number
of different originations to help achieve this.
The camps are aimed to be a fun educational
experience that is focused on caring for
animals and then the children will be able to
use these skills with their peers and everyday
life.
The camps address alternative tasty healthy
meals and snacks. All campers complete an
evaluation form at the end of the camp and
there has only been great feedback from the
children and carers Some of the comments
from the children have been, “I loved meeting
the animals face to face” to “it was really great
to hear the animals story.”
The children of one camp were very excited
and lucky to witness a training exercise from
the Windellama Rural Fire Service and heard
about a copy of animal rescue stories from
bush fires.
Thanks to Voiceless the children from Rosie’s
were very lucky to be able to participate in the
re-homing of 2 goats, a mother and daughter.
Nelly 9 years old and Kioloa 2 years old. This
gave a great feeling and accomplishment for
the children to be a part of this process.
Peanuts has been very lucky to have great
volunteers that have spent hours cooking
great food, building safe animal enclosures to
playing games and teaching the children how
to be safe around the animals and to enjoy
what they have to offer to humans with their
compassionate and affectionate ways.
Peanuts would like to say a special thanks to
Mick from Mick’s Multi Trades for the building
of Nelly’s and Kioloa’s new enclosure and his
great patience in talking to the children and
explaining how he supports the animals at
Peanuts and how it helps them.
The camps have been a complete success.
We are so grateful that Voiceless provided
Peanuts with this opportunity and we look
forward to further developing the partnership
between other originations to educate as many
as we can by Teaching Compassion and
Empathy towards Animals.
What’s Happening in Nerriga
President’s Report 2012-2013
Members of the Association have achieved a great success this year with every effort being made to complete
the Supper room of the Hall. This is a brief snapshot of the year’s happenings:
1: Over the year the stove annex was completed, the walls sealed and floor tiled; and we purchased the 6
Burner Waldorf Stove. This has now been converted from town gas to LPG, installed and connected to the
gas. It is now ready to be trialled and hopefully we can put it to good use for the Bargains in the Bush this
coming September.
2: A meeting approved the purchase of stainless steel sinks and benches in accordance our plans and the
relevant guidelines for food premises. The flat packs were collected from Narellan and we put them
together ready for installation by the plumber. Funds for the purchase of these items were donated by the
Bendigo Braidwood Community Bank for which we are extremely grateful.
3: The walls to the Supper room were insulated and lined and painted, ready for the plumber to install the
hot water service, the sinks and the benches The plumbing work has been done. All that needs to be done
now is put the tiles on top of the benches; re-paint the floor, and complete final part of the 4th wall with the
door outside to the future deck.
4: We catered for the Sassafras Endurance Ride in November, which was very successful, and look
forward to doing it again this year. And we even had an early visit from Santa Clause.
5: NPSA was asked to cater the Nerriga District Riders Club’s first major ride which was a fundraiser for the
Cancer Council. As a result of their cake stall and coffee and cake bar NPSA donated $500.00 to the
Cancer Council.
6: Bargains in the Bush was held on the October long weekend at the Hall; with 12 stalls and the NPSA
Cake Stall and Supper room Café the day was a great success; as were the many cake stalls throughout
the year.
After everyone’s stalwart support over the year, I would like to thank those who have constantly helped
with baking, building and bartering. Thank you to all who donated funds or made purchases at our various
NPSA events all of which helps us continue to progress Nerriga
Goulburn Evening Penny Post (NSW : 1881
-1940), Thursday 5 December 1907, page 2
GOULBURN POLICE COURT.
NO JURISDICTION
Charlotte Croker summoned George Roberts
and charged him with maliciously destroying a
fence by burning it, the injury done amounting
to £5.
Mr. Johnson appeared for the complainant and
Mr. Meyer for the defendant, who pleaded not
guilty.
Charlotte Croker, a widow, residing at
Pleasant Hills, Windellama, deposed that the
property at Pleasant Hills was part of her late
husband's property; defendant was a
neighbour of hers; the fencing in question,
which consisted of the usual six wires, posts,
and droppers, was erected by her son, John
Croker; the fence wag 86 yards; there would
be about 17 or 19 posts and two droppers to
each panel; a coil of wire was used; on the
23rd of October witness watched the fence and
saw defendant first pull the fence down, pack it
in a heap, and destroy it; the wire was there
now, and was useless for any purpose; it
occurred about 10 or 12 o'clock at night.
To Mr. Meyer: Her house was about half a mile
away; she was on a hill about 50 yards away
when she saw defendant; there was no
agreement with defendant to erect a fence; the
fence in question was erected after a fire three
years ago.
Mr. Meyer: Was not the old fence 50 yards
further away from the creek than the one
erected afterwards? Mr. Johnson objected to
the form of question. It did not matter, he said,
whether the fence was on defendant's property
or not. The fact was that defendant had not
only removed the fence, but destroyed it.
Mr. Meyer said in the complaint his client was
charged with maliciously burning the fence. If
he thought he had a right to do it there could
be no malice.
Witness (continuing), to Mr. Meyer: There had
never been any quarrel with defendant until he
came into possession; there was no dispute
between defendant and her about the land; the
handwriting on the letter produced was hers;
the posts and droppers were of the ordinary
kind; the portion of wood produced was not
used in the fence; defendant put up a fence
which was not as good as the one she had
erected.
Mr. Johnson said he desired, rather than
waste the time of the court, to know the
Bench's opinion on the point raised by Mr.
Meyer. There was no doubt whatever that
defendant claimed he had a right to take this
fence down. That was admitted, but the right
to take the fence down did not give him the
right to burn it.
The P.M.: The word malice comes in. If a man
thinks he has a right there is no malice.
The Bench held the court had no jurisdiction
GOULBURN HERALD
MONDAY 7 DECEMBER, 1891, PAGE 2:
THE SPA, WINDELLAMA
The tender for constructing the Spa and
Jessop dam in the Nadgigomar Creek has
been let and the constructor expects to have
his plant on the ground in three weeks from
date. The Jessop Company are cutting a new
tail race at Black Springs. It is expected that a
general start will be made after the Christmas
holidays.
A Melbourne syndicate have arranged with
Messrs. Franks, Williams, Tennant and party to
put up pumping machinery to work 240 acres
of ground on Spring Creek adjoining the Spa.
And if the Spa, the Jessop, and Whael Marion
(the name of the new company just forming) all
get to work after New Year, there should be
any quantity of work to be had for good
working men.
The battery at Mountary over near Nerriga is in
full swing on stone from the Welcome Reef and
stone from a reef discovered some time back
by Mr. T. Gregory and party. Both tables are
looking well so far, and the owners expect to
have a payable clean up.
Messrs. Hutton and Ward are still driving on
the 150 foot level to cut the old Manton Reef,
and will, I hear, star to erect a whip next week.
It is to be hoped this grand old reef will soon be
rewarded by striking her as good as she was in
olden days. December 2.
GOULBURN EVENING PENNY POST
TUESDAY 27 SEPTEMBER, 1892. PAGE 2
THE NADGIGOMAR DAM WRECKED
News reached Goulburn on Sunday that the
large dam thrown across the Nadgigomar
Creek, near Bungonia, by the Spa Gold-mining
Company had been washed away early that
morning as a result of the storm on Friday
night.
Some of the principal shareholders in the
company residing in the city received a
telegram from the engineer in charge of the
works on Saturday afternoon, saying that there
was then 30 feet of in the dam and that he
expected to see it full before nightfall.
Everything was reported to be safe and in
excellent condition and the shareholders were
naturally jubilant over this news. The dam had
not long been completed and the shareholders
were anxiously looking forward to the downfall
of rain which would fill it, as operations could
not be commenced until this had taken place.
Their expectations, were however, scattered to
the winds by receipt of the news that the whole
dam had given way under the force of the
water. This information was subsequently
confirmed by the arrival of one of the
contractors who had come from the scene of
the accident.
The particulars to hand are meagre and the
only supposition that can be given for the
collapse is that the water loosened the earth
around the getaway pipes, with which the dam
is provided, and, once gaining an outlet, it
carried everything before it.
Considerable surprise is expressed at the
failure of the dam, as no expense was spared
in making it as secure as possible. The earth
work thrown across the creek was about fifty
feet high and was fully a chain (length of a
cricket pitch) wide on the top.
An immense body of water must have been
thrown against the embankment and it is
surmised that the suction naturally gravitating
to the four get away pipes, the water loosened
the earth around them. A breach about a chain
and a half wide has been made right in the
centre of the embankment.
The total cost of the dam was over £7,000 and
on a rough estimate it is thought that it will
take between £1,000 and £2,000 to repair the
damage. When full the dam would have
backed up the water for four miles and a half.
The washaway will delay the operations of the
company for some time and it will probably
throw back the other companies that are not in
such a forward state as the Spa. Nearly
everything at this mine was in readiness and a
result of the work was being looked forward to
by capitalists concerned in other works in the
vicinity.
More definite particulars of the damage done
to the Nadgigomar dam are to hand. Mr.
Jessop, manager of the company, informs us
that the breech made in the embankment is in
the line of the outlet pipe, which gave way
before the pressure of water and thus caused
the collapse.
He states that the earthwork now standing is
looking splendid and is as firm as a rock. It
withstood the force of the water for several
hours until it had flowed through the breech
immediately above the outlet pipe. If the
embankment had entirely collapsed nothing
would have saved the camp in which the men
were sleeping.
On Monday Mr. Jessop held a short court of
enquiry into the cause of the accident and he
has forwarded the evidence to the directors of
the company.
Frederick Graham, watchman on the dam on
the night of the washaway, states that all was
right until about 3 a.m., when he heard a
creeping in the stone facing of the
embankment. He first thought it was the
waves, but immediately afterwards he heard
the water rushing through. He observed that
the face of the dam was sinking, accompanied
by a great rush of water, and he at once ran
and gave the alarm to the camp.
The men were quickly on the spot, but it was at
once seen that nothing could be done. Graham
had examined the dam for a leak just before
the collapse had occurred, but could not find a
sign of any in any part of the dam.
Robert Spense, one of the foremen on the
works, stated that up to the time that he left the
dam, at about 1 o’clock on Sunday morning, he
had been constantly looking for a leak but he
did not observe the slightest trace of any.
In his opinion the cause of the leak was the
collapse of the outlet pipe. The enormous
weight of the dam in addition to the 30 feet of
water proved too much for the pipes. He had
found one of the pipes which had been thrown
up by the water, and the fracture showing in it
proved it had been broken by the weight
thrown against it.
In his opinion the manner in which the
embankment resisted the rush of water for
over an hour showed conclusively there was
not fault in the construction of the earthwork
itself.
Mr. J. A. Gegg, who was watching the dam
carefully, as his store was in the line of the
wash if the dam burst, went home perfectly
satisfied on Saturday night at 7 o’clock that all
was well.
Mr. Algernon Coombs, an experienced man
employed on the works gave it also as his
opinion that the collapse of the outlet pipe was
the cause of the damage. He estimated that
about 9,000 cubic yards of earth work and 800
yards of stone facing had been removed.
Fortunately no serious damage is reported
through the rush of pent-up waters, but Mr.
Clarke (secretary) and family had a narrow
escape. The water just reached the house
they occupied when it receeded. The
occupants left the house and took up a
position further up the hill.
Mr. Jessop says that the indirect results will be
worse than the actual damage. The company
would have been washing gold within three
weeks but for the accident, but he still hopes
to be in a position to commence operations
before Christmas. The actual cost of the dam
is estimated at over £11,000.
In Your September Garden
With the days warming up, get your garden
ready by adding compost and lime, weed the
plot and turn the soil ready for planting.
VEGETABLE’S SEED:
Carrots - if your soil is light and deep, sow the
larger varieties such as Topweight, Western
Red, All Seasons. All three varieties are
resistant to virus disease.
If soil is shallow try King Chantenay, Early
Horn, Baby carrots. Mix seeds with coarse
sand and plant at a depth of 10mm. Water and
cover the rows with hessian to keep the
surface from drying out too quickly.
Parsnips - sow same as carrots.
Lettuce, Silver beet, Onions, Cabbages -
(cover with netting after germinating to keep
the white cabbage moth grubs off them).
Radish, Kohlrabi - sow the seed directly into
the soil. Before sowing dig to spade depth, and
spread a complete fertilizer over the area.
Beetroot, peas and potatoes ( the tubers or
seed potatoes are planted 15cm deep and
75cm apart, add a general fertilizer at the rate
of a good handful below the tubers per running
metre).
FLOWERS:
Plant seedlings of violas, verbena, dianthus,
carnations, stock, wallflower, dwarf sweet
Williams, nemesia, polyanthus and petunias for
early summer display.
Plant gladioli bulbs, they like a garden
containing compost and plenty of sun and good
drainage. Gladioli from planting to flowering
should be about 90 days, you can stagger the
planting out and get flowers at different times.
If the soil is sandy you may need to stake the
plants as they grow. A light dressing of a
complete fertilizer when planting will ensure
large healthy flowers.
You can sow lawn seeds now. Prepare the soil
dig out the weeds, add a dressing of lime or
gypsum and cultivate to a depth of 8-10cm,
From Irene Turner
about 4-2 weeks before sowing the seeds.
Established Lawns; spray the weeds such as
clover and bindii. Before spraying give the
lawn a good watering. To rejuvenate your lawn
apply a balanced or complete fertilizer, before
or during the rain. There is a weed and feed
product for the lawns.
CHRYSANTHEMUMS
Plant these now in
time for Mothers day
next year. You can
take cuttings now
and also divide the
old plants to make
more. If the weather
is wet in summer
chrysanthemums can be affected by fungus
disease, the bottom leaves may turn brown
and drop off and the top leaves show signs of
black spot. Spray with Zineb or Benlare.
OTHER JOBS:
Plant delphinium, waterlily. You can pot some
bulbs of Asiatic liliums for Christmas flowers.
You can move and transplant perennials,
shrubs and trees.
Plant bottlebrush for spring and summer
flowers.
Lift, divide and replant canna and gerbera.
Ferns can be divided and re-potted now. Use
extra coir peat in the potting mix and add a
slow-release fertilizer.
Rake off old mulch from the roses, re-use it in
garden beds well away from the roses, then
apply fresh mulch. This prevents re-infecting
plants with foliar diseases.
Re-pot shrubs and trees and apply slowrelease
fertilizer.
Finish planting bare-rooted trees, shrub roses.
Water in well, apply a diluted seaweed,
manure, or blood and bone, and mulch.
Council Update
Excerpts from council meeting
20 August 2013
Flood Warning System
Council resolved that the implementation of the
flood warning system improvements be
deferred until the Office of Environment and
Heritage grant application is determined.
At the December 2012 Meeting, Council
endorsed the recommendations presented in
the Floodplain Risk Management Study, which
was partly funded from a grant received from
the Office of Environment and Heritage.
The Study recommended the implementation
of a Flood Warning System and the provision
of additional rainfall gauges and flow
measurement stations and the preparation of a
flood warning procedure. The estimated cost to
deliver these recommendations is $90,000.
Council has allocated $70,000 in the 2013/14
Operation Plan to commence the implementation
of these recommendations. In addition a
grant application has been submitted to the
Office of Environment and Heritage for additional
funding assistance.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Council considered
several options to progress work on the flood
warning systems, specifically the installation of
additional rain and river gauges to enhance
Council’s Flood Warning System.
At the meeting, it was resolved that the
implementation of the flood warning system be
deferred until the Office of Environment and
Heritage grant application has been
determined
Tarago Tennis Courts lighting
Tarago will soon enjoy lighting over their tennis
courts with Council resolving to spend $34,000
on this project. Recently, $17,000 was
obtained from the NSW Sport and Recreation
Facilities Grants for this lighting, with the
additional $17,000 being funded by Council’s
Special Projects Reserve.
SES Local Controller
Councillors endorsed the reappointment of
Robert Bell as the Local Controller of the
Goulburn State Emergency Service for a
further two years.
Constitutional Recognition campaign
Councillors agreed with the recommendation
based on one change that; The Local
Government NSW request for a contribution
towards the Constitutional Recognition
campaign and for staff to work on Election Day
for the campaign be declined. Goulburn
Mulwaree Mayor Geoff Kettle stated that
unless we have bipartisan support at all levels
of government that this campaign would
become unachievable. He felt that there may
be alternatives to the current strategy and
remains in support of constitutional recognition
for local government.
Country Mayors Association
Council has agreed not to renew its annual
membership to Country Mayors Association.
However, it agreed to accept the SEROC
(South east Regional Organisation of
Councils) end of term report. SEROC will be
ad advised of Council’s ongoing commitment
to membership in accordance with the current
SEROC Board Resolution.
Redevelopment of Goulburn War Memorial
Car Park and Forecourt
The current tender for redevelopment of
Goulburn War Memorial car park and forecourt
will be cancelled in accordance with Local
Environment Regulations - as the submitted
prices are outside the available budget.
The Goulburn War Memorial Redevelopment
Project will be redesigned or restaged to
account quantity surveyor and design advice.
A Working Group be formed consisting of the
Mayor, interested Councillors, staff and
members of the RSL Sub Branch to discuss
the scope and staging of the project.
Joy E Allenby-Acuna ALPACAS - Anecdotes & Advice La Granja Holistic Alpacas
Still in winter, but not long to
go until Spring, I always
regard this as the 1st of
September but the equinox is
on September 22nd.
The Alpacas are very well and
They have only had to be in
the shelter because of the rain
about three times. We have
had rain on and off but not too
much. The creek is still
flowing and has rushed
through up to the banks.
Ninfo had a gunky eye but I
washed it with eyebright and
thanks to a good diet and life
that is the only problem we
have had. Except for Mbale who hurt his leg playing with Monty, but with TLC and homeopathic
cures and a healing from Billie Dean he is getting better.
Apart from the few aches and pains of advancing years, Heroides and I have been well, no colds
or flu, we are very lucky!! . But we look after ourselves and eat well. My vegetarian diet is keeping
me very healthful and I have also lost a little off my middle. I only fall down on cheese and the
occasional egg now and will become a full vegan soon. As one person ,I cannot save the Alpacas
from hurt and cruelty entirely (and all other creatures) so this is my bit towards it. Cannot stand the
look or smell of meat now.
There was an awful programme on Landline the Sunday before last, I missed it but was sent it by
a friend. Disgusting and upsetting, how can humans do this to innocent creatures, I am afraid I do
not understand. The look in the
eyes of the two being led to the
abattoir was appalling. How
dare we breed them for this, to
put in our mouths all for
greed !!!! I think future
generations will look back on
this time with horror and rightly
so.
If you have a heart and care at
all please sign my petition on
Care2 www.thepetitionsite.com.
Please do not kill and eat
Alpacas. The Alpacas thank
you.
