Eaglebrook Summer Semester
2014
Frequently Asked Questions
1. When may I call my son/daughter?
Depending on the degree of homesickness: Tuesday or Wednesday, July 8 or 9
the students will be allowed to call home on one of those two days. Make sure the
family has regular calling hours which are printed and will be posted.
2. When can my son/daughter call home?
Anytime that there is a need. Be sure to assure parents their child will not be
restricted to calling home if there is an important need. Refer parents to the
printed phone times when students can make phone calls.
3. What if my child becomes ill during the night?
All students will be informed at the start of school that they are to knock on any
faculty member’s door when they are not feeling well, or if there is an emergency.
Our on-call nurse will be called if necessary and faculty will transport students to
Franklin Medical Center which is less than ten minutes away from campus.
4. How much cash can my child have in his or her possession?
The school policy is $10.00 per student. Any amount over $10.00 should be
given to a faculty member to be deposited into the student’s spending account.
5. Who do I call if I have a question or concern?
The adviser is the first person to call. The adviser will then direct the parent(s) to
the appropriate faculty member for further support or explanation of a policy or
issue.
6. My son/daughter is struggling with his/her roommate. What should I do?
Let the adviser know of the situation earlier rather than later. The adviser will
then inform the Housemaster as well as Brian and Rachel Rose.
7. Is someone available in the dorm if my son/daughter needs help with his/her
homework?
Yes, all faculty are available at appropriate times during the study period. Many
classroom teachers are living on campus who will be available as well.
(OVER, PLEASE)
8. My daughter/son says she/he is being teased/picked on by another student or
students. How will the school respond?
Teasing, or bullying, is not tolerated at Eaglebrook. A firm, yet appropriate,
response will follow after all the facts have been taken into consideration and
faculty have spoken to all the students involved. The incident and follow through
will be documented and shared with the Director of Residential Life and the
Director of Summer Semester
9. How does the student laundry process work?
Laundry goes out on Tuesday mornings from the dormitory and is returned to the
dormitory on Friday mornings. Faculty will assist students with their laundry on
Monday evenings.
10. What sort of snacks or treats can we send?
Students may have limited amounts of home baked goods in the dormitory rooms
as well as snacks purchased from the school store. Gum, candy, soda, chips,
soups, noodles, etc. are not allowed. We appreciate parents supporting this
policy, which is to discourage the consumption of unhealthy, packaged foods by
students during their stay at Eaglebrook.
11. When is the best time to visit our son/daughter?
Sunday is the day that most parents will visit. Parents can visit any time;
however, because we are off campus on Wednesdays and Saturdays, be sure to
tell parents that they must call when they will be visiting campus to be sure that
their child will be on campus. Parents must call the adviser prior to the visit as
well as the Director of Residential Life or the Director of Summer Semester.
12. Where do students get school supplies?
Eaglebrook has a school store located in the basement of the dining hall where
students can charge necessary supplies and snacks.
13. Can my son/daughter attend religious services on the weekend?
Yes. The school provides transportation to religious services. If a parent requires
they attend, we need to know that in advance. It is up to the child to attend as the
faculty offer the opportunity but will not remind or push a student to attend.
