EBS tours Boston
Duck Tours, Museum of Science and Quincy Marke!
Eaglebrook Summer Semester
left early Wednesday morning for
Boston. The day began with a
famed Boston Duck Boat Tour,
followed by a visit to the Museum
of Science then finally dinner and
sightseeing in the historical
Quincy Market.
BOSTON DUCK BOATS
Once in Boston, the students
boarded three Duck Boats "Sally,
Betty and Hazel# for a land and
sea tour of Boston. We saw
churches, cemeteries, parks,
historic buildings and Bostons
tallest building, the John
Hancock Tower. Although the 3
The students gathered after a
long day for a group photo on the
step of Quincy Market. The bus
ride home was quiet as most of the
students and faculty were tired
from the long day.
The Boston State House
The Massachusetts State House
was built between 1795 and 1797 on
Beacon Hill and overlooks the Boston
Commons. The site, a pasture owned
by John Hancock was lowered 50 ft for
the construction of the State House.
The large gilded dome is topped with a
lantern and pine cone, symbol of the
forests of Massachusetts.
The dome was originally made of
wood shingles. These were replaced in
1802 with copper. In 1861, the dome
was gilded and this remained so ever
since, except during the second World
drivers gave di$erent tours, the
highlight for the students was that
once on the Charles River, each
student was able to Captain the boat
and steer clear on the many sail and
power boats on the river who were
also enjoying the beautiful summer
afternoon.
MAYER HOUSE TIE%DYE NIGHT
EBS departed early Saturday
morning for Hampton Beach,
New Hampshire. The weather,
sunny and High 80’s,
cooperated and the students
took full advantage of the
ocean and the boardwalk.
Although the water was a
bit cold the sand and sun were
plenty warm.
Students found the arcade,
tattoo parlors and t%shirt shops
as many returned with
personalized hats and shirts.
Each day from 4:30 until 6:00, all students have free time. Common activities are
hanging out by the pond, spending time in the dorm, or going to the library. In the
dorm, people play and talk about the day, about what they thought about their classes
or how they’re feeling. People mainly go to the library to use the computer or hang out
at their tables. Some people call their parents. The boys play basketball out side of
Halsted or go to Mr. Rios’s apartment to play Guitar Hero. Some people go to the
school store to buy some food and drinks. Overall free time is a relaxing time where we
can wind down before dinner.
My whiskers long and curly
Looking like a shaggy rug.
The task is long and daunting
Oh where should I begin ?
Perhaps I’ll leave a mustache
To accent my toothy grin.
The shavings going smoothly
And my whiskers disappear.
but without my manly face mane
I look surly and austere.
Then all at once it hits me
And I know just what to do.
I’ll shave my cheeks and sideburns
Batman-The Dark Knight
Batman has sent Spidey packing as
king of Hollywood's box%o&ce
superheroes. "The Dark Knight"
took in a record '155.34 million in
its first weekend, topping the
previous best of '151.1 million for
"Spider%Man 3" in May 2007 and
pacing Hollywood to its biggest
weekend ever, according to studio
estimates Sunday. "We knew it
would be big, but we never
expected to dominate the
marketplace like we did," said Dan
Fellman, head of distribution for
Warner Bros., which released "The
Dark Knight." The movie should
shoot past the '200 million mark
by the end of the week, he said.
Tropical Storm Dolly hits Mexico
A tropical storm warning
remained in e$ect Monday as
Tropical Storm Dolly moved over
Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.Dolly
has spurred storm warnings from
the Mexico%Belize border
northward to the city of
Campeche, on the opposite side of
the Yucatan Peninsula. The
warning encompasses the tourist
resort of Cancun.
High Gas Prices fuel creativity
More Americans, tired of
skyrocketing gas prices, are
crossing the border to Mexico,
where fueling up costs a great deal
less.Right now a gallon of gas costs
about '3.10 in Tijuana, while it's
about '4.60 just north of the
border in the United States.That's
a '30 savings on a 20%gallon fill%up.
Rolling Billboards are the way to
about the 'Jobing' mobile, and now
they're like, 'Oh, we'll get Misha
to drive,' " she said, standing next
Jobing.com might be the most
extreme example of how
companies are helping employees
during the current gas crunch. But
with gas averaging more than '4 a
are trying to figure out incentives
