The Faculty of Built Environment (FBE)
was formally established in July 2000.
This faculty started as a programme
within the University’s Faculty of Engineering
in 1995. The programme went
on to become a division within the Engineering
and later, in 2000, was granted
autonomy to run as a full-fledged faculty.
The FBE consists of four departments:
Department of Architecture, Department
of Building Surveying, Department of Estate
Management and Department of
Quantity Surveying.
Master of Science (Building) by research
is one of the research-based postgraduate
programmes offered by the Faculty of
Built Environment. This programme is
intended to engage in the wider issues of
construction and building development.
The programme leads to a Masters degree
that is independent from and, therefore,
does not provide for exemption from
any part of any professional courses in
Malaysia.
Candidates for the degree of Master of
Science (Building) shall have the following
qualification:
1. A bachelor degree with a CGPA of
3.00 and above from University of
Malaya or its equivalent in the following
areas: (i) Quantity Surveying;
or (ii) Building Surveying; or
(iii) Estate Management ;or (iv) Science
in Architecture ; or (v) Arts in
Architecture; OR;
2. An equivalent qualification that is of
comparable academic status as approved
by the Senate upon the recommendation
of the Faculty. Appli-
Language requirement:
International applicants are required to:
1. Have the minimum of IELTS band 6
or TOEFL score of 550 if their first
degree is from a university where
English is not a medium of instruction;
AND;
2. Fulfill the Bahasa Malaysia requirement
before being conferred the
degree.

Candidacy is for a period of two (2) semesters
(minimum) and eight (8) semesters
(maximum).

Candidates can register at any time during
a semester, but fees are always
charged on full semester basis. It is
therefore advisable to register at the beginning
of a semester.
