A programme leading to a doctoral degree<br />

The <strong>Faculty</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Built</strong> <strong>Environment</strong> (FBE)<br />

was formally established in July 2000.<br />

This faculty started as a programme<br />

within the University’s <strong>Faculty</strong> <strong>of</strong> Engineering<br />

in 1995. The programme went<br />

on to become a division within the Engineering<br />

and later, in 2000, was granted<br />

autonomy to run as a full-fledged faculty.<br />

The FBE consists <strong>of</strong> four departments:<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Architecture, Department<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Building</strong> Surveying, Department <strong>of</strong> Estate<br />

Management and Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Quantity Surveying.<br />

<strong>Master</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Science</strong> (<strong>Building</strong>) by research<br />

is one <strong>of</strong> the research-based postgraduate<br />

programmes <strong>of</strong>fered by the <strong>Faculty</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Built</strong> <strong>Environment</strong>. This programme is<br />

intended to engage in the wider issues <strong>of</strong><br />

construction and building development.<br />

The programme leads to a <strong>Master</strong>s degree<br />

that is independent from and, therefore,<br />

does not provide for exemption from<br />

any part <strong>of</strong> any pr<strong>of</strong>essional courses in<br />

Malaysia.<br />

Candidates for the degree <strong>of</strong> <strong>Master</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Science</strong> (<strong>Building</strong>) shall have the following<br />

qualification:<br />

1. A bachelor degree with a CGPA <strong>of</strong><br />

3.00 and above from University <strong>of</strong><br />

Malaya or its equivalent in the following<br />

areas: (i) Quantity Surveying;<br />

or (ii) <strong>Building</strong> Surveying; or<br />

(iii) Estate Management ;or (iv) <strong>Science</strong><br />

in Architecture ; or (v) Arts in<br />

Architecture; OR;<br />

2. An equivalent qualification that is <strong>of</strong><br />

comparable academic status as approved<br />

by the Senate upon the recommendation<br />

<strong>of</strong> the <strong>Faculty</strong>. Appli-<br />

Language requirement:<br />

International applicants are required to:<br />

1. Have the minimum <strong>of</strong> IELTS band 6<br />

or TOEFL score <strong>of</strong> 550 if their first<br />

degree is from a university where<br />

English is not a medium <strong>of</strong> instruction;<br />

AND;<br />

2. Fulfill the Bahasa Malaysia requirement<br />

before being conferred the<br />

degree.<br />

Candidates can register at any time during<br />

a semester, but fees are always<br />

charged on full semester basis. It is<br />
