Middle <strong>School</strong> Holds<br />

An Open House<br />

The <strong>York</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> Middle <strong>School</strong> held an Open<br />

House to show the community the new sixth grade<br />

wing, auditorium, music rooms and refurbished areas<br />

that have been completed this year.<br />

Middle <strong>School</strong> Principal Victoria Gross estimated<br />

about 200 people toured the expanded building.<br />

A number of students served as guides while others<br />

provided background music for the visitors. Young<br />

musicians were also on the stage of the auditorium<br />

providing entertainment for visitors.<br />

Young <strong>York</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong><br />

<strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> readers<br />

have done it again.<br />

For the ninth time in<br />

12 years, East <strong>York</strong> Elementary<br />

<strong>School</strong> was the<br />

top fundraiser for the<br />

<strong>York</strong> County Literacy<br />

Council’s Buck a Book<br />

Week.<br />

Two hundred and<br />

seventy-five readers at<br />

East <strong>York</strong> raised $8,386<br />

for the Literacy Council.<br />

Indian Rock Elementary<br />

<strong>School</strong> won the second<br />

place award for the<br />

7 <strong>District</strong>s Joining For Community Ed<br />

The <strong>York</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong><br />

<strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> is broadening<br />

its selection of<br />

Community Education<br />

programs by joining with<br />

seven other school districts<br />

in <strong>York</strong> County.<br />

Residents of each district<br />

will be able to select<br />

Community Education<br />

programs from any of<br />

those offered by the<br />

seven cooperating <strong>District</strong>s<br />

and the <strong>York</strong><br />

highest amount of money<br />

raised with 106 students<br />

earning $4,650.<br />

To celebrate both<br />

schools’ accomplishments,<br />

the Literacy<br />

Council arranged visits<br />

to the schools by Mike<br />

DeJean, a relief pitcher<br />

for the Baltimore Orioles,<br />

the Orioles Bird<br />

Mascot and WSBA 910-<br />

AM sports personality<br />

Jeff Shiffman.<br />

Mike DeJean told the<br />

students about the difference<br />

reading made in his<br />

County <strong>School</strong> of Technology.<br />

The new co-op states:<br />

“By combining our programs<br />

and working together,<br />

the participating<br />

districts are able to offer<br />

you more classes, more<br />

locations … more<br />

choices for your educational<br />

experience.”<br />

The districts, in addition<br />

to <strong>York</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong>,<br />

include: Central <strong>York</strong>,<br />

life when he was growing<br />

up in Louisiana.<br />

The <strong>York</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong><br />

Middle <strong>School</strong> also took<br />

part in Buck-a-Book and<br />

raised $1,268 with 71<br />

students participating.<br />

Dallastown Area, Dover<br />

Area, Eastern <strong>York</strong>,<br />

Northeastern, West <strong>York</strong><br />

and the <strong>York</strong> County<br />

<strong>School</strong> of Technology.<br />

the Community Education<br />

Programs will be<br />

mailed to <strong>York</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong><br />

residents later this summer.<br />
