MDOT’s Traffic Engineering Division received the<br />

Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>Transportation</strong> Engineers (ITE) 2010<br />

<strong>Transportation</strong> Achievement Award for Safety<br />

for “Innovative Interagency Partnerships – The<br />

<strong>Mississippi</strong> Traffic MED-COM Project.” The partnership<br />

project integrates the rapidly expanding travel<br />

information network resources <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Mississippi</strong><br />

statewide Intelligent <strong>Transportation</strong> System (known<br />

as msTraffic, operated through Traffic Management<br />

Centers) with the new statewide medical emergency<br />

response system (known as <strong>Mississippi</strong> MED-COM).<br />

Steve Twedt, former District Six Engineer, was presented the <strong>Mississippi</strong><br />

Engineer <strong>of</strong> the Year Award by the <strong>Mississippi</strong> Engineering<br />

Society (MES). Mark McConnell, Assistant Chief Engineer, was<br />

recognized as the <strong>Mississippi</strong> Government Engineer <strong>of</strong> the Year.<br />

MES awards recognize excellence in pr<strong>of</strong>essionalism and leadership,<br />

while supporting the health, safety, and welfare <strong>of</strong> the public,<br />

in all areas <strong>of</strong> engineering.<br />

MDOT was honored with the Keep America Beautiful<br />

2009 Partnership Award for exemplary contributions<br />

to and support <strong>of</strong> Keep America Beautiful<br />

and its Great American Cleanup. MDOT has worked<br />

hand-in-hand with Keep <strong>Mississippi</strong> Beautiful for<br />

more than a decade, with both groups sharing<br />

numerous state and national honors. Programs<br />

launched through the partnership are the annual<br />

Trash Bash events, litter education presentations,<br />

the Inmate Litter Removal Program, and the Great<br />

American Cleanup.<br />

Julie Ethridge, Asset Management Division Director, was named<br />

MAGPPA Property Officer <strong>of</strong> the Year (<strong>Mississippi</strong> Association <strong>of</strong><br />

Governmental Purchasing and Property Agents) for her contributions<br />

to Public Property, MAGPPA, and the pr<strong>of</strong>essional development<br />

<strong>of</strong> her staff. Mike Roberts was named MAGPPA Purchasing<br />

Officer <strong>of</strong> the Year.<br />
