Indigenous Practices for
Indigenous Lives: The Mino-
Pimatisiwin Approach
Michael Hart, Author, Practitioner
and Assistant Professor,
University of Manitoba, Ottawa
Michael Anthony Hart (Kaskitémahikan) is the author of Seeking Mino-
Pimatisiwin: An Aboriginal Approach to Helping, which encourages the
use of Aboriginal concepts, values and perspectives in counselling and
teaching disciplines. He is also the co-author of Wícihitowin: Aboriginal
Social Work in Canada, the first Canadian social work book written by
First Nations, Inuit and Métis authors who are educators at schools of
social work across Canada.
Michael has dedicated his career to learning, following and teaching
Aboriginal ways of helping. He is the father of two boys, a citizen of Fisher
River Cree Nation, residing in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He has worked in the
areas of child and family services, family therapy, and addictions. He is
an assistant professor at the Faculty of Social Work at the University of
Manitoba and provides mental health clinical supervision at Long Plain
First Nation and for Health Canada.
