Service Pay<br />

Service Pay = Rank Pay + Combat Allowance<br />

It is paid for each day of NS training (Mon – Sun).<br />

Serves to recognise each day of contribution made by<br />

<strong>NSmen</strong>.<br />

Annual increment is given based on the satisfactory<br />

completion of respective NS activity in the preceding<br />

workyear (1 Apr to 31 Mar).<br />

A minimum sum equivalent to half-day service pay will be<br />

paid for NS activity of 4 hours or less.<br />

All <strong>NSmen</strong> will be paid pro-rated service pay for all forms of<br />

official NS call-ups (initiated by MINDEF).<br />

If you suffer a financial LOSS in your civilian<br />

income as a result of attending NS training, you<br />

can CLAIM for make-up pay.<br />

MUP = Loss in Civilian Income – Service Pay<br />

MUP is calculated on the principle that you will not suffer<br />

a financial loss in civilian income when you are called up<br />

for NS training.<br />

Note:<br />

Commuting Time & Opportunity Loss (e.g. loss of rest time) are not<br />

claimable.<br />

For employed NSman, it is company’s discretion whether to adjust the<br />

NSman’s civilian income due to the NS Training<br />

Important Note<br />

Under Regulation 9 of Enlistment Act:<br />

Authorised personnel from MINDEF may conduct visits to companies<br />

to verify MUP claims. Employers/ <strong>NSmen</strong> are requested to give access<br />

to the required documents related to the claim.<br />

Under Regulation 11 of Enlistment Act:<br />

Any person who gives false or misleading info in respect of MUP<br />

claims shall be guilty of an offence and be liable on conviction to a<br />

maximum fine of $2k or 12 months imprisonment or both.<br />

Q. Can I claim make-up pay for half-day NS<br />

training?<br />

A. Yes, if the training duration overlaps your working<br />

hours and you suffer a civilian income loss as a result<br />

A. No, commuting time is not claimable. You will need<br />

to make the necessary arrangement with your<br />
