Iowa Lakes strives to notify you at least 24 hours in 

advance if a class is cancelled. Payment for courses 

and seminars is required before the class start date. 

You may mail a check or money order or pay by 

credit or debit card when registering by phone, mail 

or fax. Refunds are given when Iowa Lakes cancels 

a course due to insufficient registration. Weather 

related cancellations are refunded if we do not offer a 

rescheduled date. 

A student with previous debt to the college will 

not be allowed to register until the past due debt is 

resolved; this policy is not applicable to students 

whose employer/sponsor is responsible for payment

Success Story - Bon Bon Froyo, LLC 

Bon Bon Froyo, LLC is a new frozen yogurt shop 

located at Gary’s on the River in Spencer, Iowa. 

Bon Bon is completely self-serve, from the yogurt 

dispensers to the 40+ toppings, ranging from cereal 

and candy to fruit and nuts. The reception by the 

public has been extremely positive. The business 

is owned and operated by Mercedes Polaschek 

and Marc Steffes. The young couple recently 

moved back to Iowa from Arizona recognizing an 

opportunity to open the frozen yogurt business that 

they had frequented often in the Phoenix area. 

The Northwest Iowa Small Business Development 

Center first met with Mercedes and Marc to begin the 

process of developing a business plan and financial 

projections. The SBDC assisted Mercedes and 

Marc in preparation of a business plan, preparation 

of financial projections and securing the financial 

resources to start-up the frozen yogurt shops. 

Mercedes and Marc spent many hours developing 

their business plan, researching the market, and 

developing financial projections. Northwest Iowa 

SBDC guided them in the preparation of information 

to secure bank financing for both locations. Marc and 

Mercedes were very appreciative of the assistance 

provided by Northwest Iowa SBDC in fine tuning 

their business plan for presentation to the bank.

Jody Miller will review the effects of ionizing radiation, 

standards for patient/operator protection from 

ionizing radiation, the legal/ethical responsibilities

years of High School French, but after visiting France 

for the first time between her junior and senior year 

of High School, she was sold. She went to college 

at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD where she 

obtained majors in French, K-12 education, and a 

minor in Spanish. She has been to France four times, 

one of which was an extended study abroad period 

in college. She worked at a French immersion camp 

in college in northern MN and currently assists with 

some translation work.
