Feature Artist – Jenny Topfer
Image: Midlands Winter (detail)
Jenny Topfer’s work draws from her
experience of the landscape and the
changing seasons in the Southern
Midlands, where she lives. Her paintings
use the horizon lines that delineate land and
sky, mountains and fog as visual metaphors
for our relationships with ourselves and
each other. Many of the paintings are
physically divided, reinforcing the idea
of relationships and duality. The surfaces
of her large, abstract canvases are layered
and reworked many times each, creating a
worn and scarred surface that references the
land as well as our own bodies. Jenny is a
member of her local Regional Arts branch.
