Writing your
personal history
Facilitated by local historian
and author Dennis Sullivan, this
workshop series will help folks
who want to record their life
stories for their children, grandchildren,
and friends. Emphasis
will be on telling one’s story in
an interesting and accurate way.
A photocopied packet of short
selections from writers who
have written about their lives
will be made available to each
participant as guides. Included
among these will be Joan Didion,
C. S. Lewis, Jung Chang, David
Sedaris, Henry David Thoreau,
and David Foster Wallace. A
copy of the stories of local writer
Bryce Butler will be given to each
participant as well.
Writers will bring work to
share with the group at each
session. Participants may make
supportive and constructive comments
about each piece, but all
participants will remain respectful
of each person’s unique voice
at all times. Space is limited to
20. Registration is required. This
program is on Jan. 15 and 29,
Feb. 12 and 26, and March 12
from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Contact
Suzanne Fisher at the library
for more information.
Artists of the month
During the entire month of
December the library will host a
traveling art exhibit called “The
Eyes of the Storm: Hurricane
Irene in Images and Words”.
This incredible exhibit was
created by students in kindergarten
through grade 12 of the
Gilboa-Conesville Central School
District. Please be sure to stop
by the library, visit our gallery
and see for yourself the original
artwork created by the students
most touched by Hurricane Irene.
We will have copies of the book
The Eyes of the Storm: Hurricane
Irene in Images and Words on
sale as well. All proceeds will
benefit the Gilboa-Conesville
CSD.
The Guilderland Library Foundation
is asking you to donate
to its Giving Tree and support
the many events from children’s
programs to notable author talks,
that make your library “Guilderland’s
Gathering Place” for children,
families, seniors, singles;
the entire community.
To donate, stop by the Guilderland
Public Library and pick up
a donation form. Or mail your
donation by using the form at
http://bit.ly/Giving-Tree. Your
contribution will be promptly
commemorated with a symbol
of winter – penguins, mittens,
snowflakes, and snowmen –
personalized with your name or
dedication.
The Giving Tree is filling up
with symbols representing everything
from a gift of $5 from
a youngster who loved last summer’s
reading club, to a generous
donation from a local law
firm that supports community
causes.
The funds you donate go directly
to many programs and
services not supported by taxpayer
dollars, activities such as
the summer reading program,
concerts in the garden and in the
Helderberg Room, family movies,
and the Carol J. Hamblin Notable
Author Speakers Series.
Your donation is tax-deductible
to the fullest extent of the law.
