Advised that two prisoners at Calhoun County Jail died from MRSA on March 4, 2005.<br />
Johnson discussed this with RPA MacMeekin and expressed continuing concern about<br />
MRSA in the prison system.<br />
Advised that KCF will be adding 296 prisoners in June.<br />
Reported on the receipt of charges against a union officer.<br />
Mel Grieshaber reported on the following topics:<br />
Discussed progress on the final preparation for printing the contract. The contract book is<br />
currently being proofed.<br />
Provided current information on the lawsuit on gender based assignments.<br />
Provided current information on the state budget.<br />
Advised that House Bill 4922 on early retirement does not include corrections and<br />
conservation officers. This bill was introduced as a budget cutting measure -- it is intended<br />
that the positions vacated will not be refilled.<br />
Discussed the history of "covered" positions in <strong>Corrections</strong>.<br />
Advised that he talked with SEIU leadership about networking unions that deal with<br />
corrections and/or law enforcement.<br />
Discussed the SEIU "Locals Online" and "Get Active" programs.<br />
Discussed bumping/transfer regions for the camps and centers that are closing.<br />
Advised that the union is moving to arbitration on the CTO max pay issue.<br />
Discussed CTO meal reimbursements.<br />
Discussed the cost of reactivating the MERIT campaign in 2006.<br />
Discussed the Economic Alliance of <strong>Michigan</strong>. The alliance fights increases in health care<br />
costs. Motion by Scott Fischer to contribute $2,000 to the Economic Alliance. Supported by<br />
Bill Henderson and MOTION CARRIED.<br />
Discussed hiring an intern to work in the office.<br />
Advised that staff will be doing follow up calls on letters sent to PAC donors.<br />
Moved to hire an intern for the spring and summer at the lowest rate we can achieve.<br />
Supported by Scott Fischer and MOTION CARRIED. John Ost, Ray Sholtz, and Adam<br />
Douglas voted no.<br />
Advised that Ken Hatfield is the finalist for IACO Correctional Officer of the Year.
