Advised that a rebate from SEIU of approximately $10,000 was given to MCO for political<br />

education that was left over from 2003 and 2004.<br />

Advised that the new president and chief steward orientation to be held in conjunction with the<br />

Central Committee meeting will be the kickoff for staff to go in the field to train stewards.<br />

Reported on his attendance at the SEIU Public Service Division Leadership Assembly.<br />

The first meeting of the Change to Win Federation was held on September 27, 2005. Change to<br />

Win is close to having even numbers of members with the AFL-CIO.<br />

Motion was made by John Ost to send Mel to a Public Affairs Council conference. Supported by<br />

Jim Johnson and MOTION CARRIED.<br />

Advised that Sacha Crowley will attend the <strong>Michigan</strong> Labor Press Conference.<br />

Tom Tylutki reported on the following topics:<br />

Advised that the Mid-<strong>Michigan</strong> facility requested that a former union official represent a<br />

member. The board has already voted in the past to not allow this.<br />

Thanked the bylaws committee for its efforts and hard work.<br />

Advised that he will be meeting at HVM with staff on October 17th to discuss the large<br />

number of grievances filed at that facility.<br />

Advised that the department is looking closely at each facility to identify positions to cut.<br />

Thanked Mel Grieshaber for his efforts on the punk prison and the clothing allowance.<br />

Advised that a new <strong>Corrections</strong> academy class will begin on October 24th for 124 new<br />

officers. Another 100 officers may be trained in January or February.<br />

Reported that civil service temporarily increased its travel reimbursement from 40.5 to 48.5<br />

cents per mile. Motion was made by Scott Fischer to increase MCO's reimbursement rate<br />

to 48 cents per mile September 2005 through December 2005. Supported by John Ost<br />

and MOTION CARRIED.<br />

Advised that a dispute has arisen between the two elected chapter officers at MRF on the<br />

appointment of the remaining chapter officers. Motion was made by John Ost to refer the<br />

issue back to the chapter board to have a posted chapter meeting at which the members<br />

will decide on the method to be used to fill chapter vacancies. Supported by Cary Gross<br />

and MOTION CARRIED.<br />

Submitted two challenges to the election of the Region III Representative for the camps.<br />

Motion was made by Scott Fischer to hold a new election. Supported by Cary Gross and<br />

MOTION CARRIED.<br />
