away, ignoring the Soldier’s muttered curse of --<br />

Prayer candles and incense dominate the interior of the twostoried<br />
hondo -- or main hall -- filled with townsfolk.<br />

screen of gossamer silk to prevent the gaze of peasants from<br />
sullying him. It <strong>is</strong> from there he surveys h<strong>is</strong> offerings.<br />
O<strong>is</strong>hi watches as a PIG FARMER approaches the screen and hands<br />
over five piglets in a cart. An ACOLYTE records the<br />
information in the official roll. Kira never says a word.<br />
Kira’s functionary, the temple’s CHIEF MONK, does all the<br />
interacting with the lesser peoples.<br />

As the Soldier escorts the farmer away, the Chief Monk turns<br />
h<strong>is</strong> gaze on O<strong>is</strong>hi.<br />
