Note: "Resist, Occupy, Create!: Latin American Social Movements Transforming Society and Politics" − Social movement activity in Latin America has exploded over the last two decades. We will
examine the demands for a reconceptualization of democracy, alliances between social movements and left−leaning governments; inequalities and tensions whithin movements; and the transnational
nature of this movement activity. As we discuss each of these themes, you will learn about active social movements in Latin America today, what they are struggling for, what challenges they have
confronted and how they have changed society and politics.
