Botany Spotlight: Colorado Native Trees<br />
There are over 40 native trees and shrubs in Colorado. Learn the<br />
characteristics <strong>of</strong> your favorite one which you might be illustrating<br />
in the future class. Learn to use the <strong>Gardens</strong> Navigator and<br />
locate the specimens in <strong>Denver</strong> <strong>Botanic</strong> <strong>Gardens</strong>. This workshop<br />
is particularly recommended if you are registered for Expressive<br />
Ink: Illustrating Colorado Native Trees and Large Shrubs. Fee:<br />
$85 member, $110 non-member. Prerequisite: Botany for the<br />
<strong>Botanic</strong>al Illustrator.<br />

Keeping the Traditions Alive – <strong>Botanic</strong>al Illustration<br />
Through Centuries<br />
From the Paleolithic to Leonardo da Vinci, and from the great<br />
temple <strong>of</strong> Tuthmosis to the modern galleries and studios <strong>of</strong><br />
London or New York. Before printed material, images were<br />
carved or engraved in bones, stone or wood; later, they were<br />
painted on walls, papyrus, velum or paper. As soon as books<br />
and manuscripts about plants began to be produced, illustrations<br />
became desirable and essential. During this intense workshop,<br />
you will learn about the long history <strong>of</strong> botanical illustration and<br />
its importance within medicine, botany and other science fields.<br />

local color. Learn to make your own quick or permanent models,<br />
from white paper, white paper clay, film and plastic clay to<br />

Take the mystery out <strong>of</strong> materials. There are ten types <strong>of</strong> erasers<br />
- which one is right for the job? What is the difference between<br />
sable and synthetic? What’s vellum? This information-packed<br />
class will provide you with detailed information about all <strong>of</strong> the<br />
art materials used throughout the <strong>Botanic</strong>al Illustration program.<br />
From papers to pencils, inks to pens, brushes to paints, you’ll<br />
learn where and how to find all the right materials and how they<br />
are used. Save time and money by shopping expertly the first<br />
