Keeping the Traditions Alive – Botanical Illustration
Through Centuries
From the Paleolithic to Leonardo da Vinci, and from the great
temple of Tuthmosis to the modern galleries and studios of
London or New York. Before printed material, images were
carved or engraved in bones, stone or wood; later, they were
painted on walls, papyrus, velum or paper. As soon as books
and manuscripts about plants began to be produced, illustrations
became desirable and essential. During this intense workshop,
you will learn about the long history of botanical illustration and
its importance within medicine, botany and other science fields.
Fee: $225 member, $280 non-member. No Prerequisites.
WEEKEND WORKSHOP
Botanical Models
Workshop
It is December and a live
penstemon is not a prospect.
Simple and effective,
botanical models can
bridge the gap between
photographs and reality
when a living subject is
Libby Kyer
not available. Photographs
provide necessary information, but can seriously impact the threedimensionality
of the final image. White models allow an artist
to see the reality of form and function without the interference of
local color. Learn to make your own quick or permanent models,
from white paper, white paper clay, film and plastic clay to
enhance your art. Fee: $85 member, $105 non-member. No
Prerequisites.
DATE: Tue., Dec. 3 | TIME: 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Instructor: Libby Kyer
