Basic Decorative<br />
Techniques in Leather<br />
Across the world and<br />
throughout history, leather has<br />
provided a wonderful medium<br />
for surface decoration. This<br />
course introduces students<br />
to a range <strong>of</strong> decorative<br />

techniques including tooling<br />
(stamping), inlay/onlay, embossing, abstract sanded leather<br />
collages (Lacunose), various inlay techniques, sculptural boards,<br />
transfer <strong>of</strong> computer-printed onlay shapes from paper to leather,<br />
and laser printing on leather – you will learn a plethora <strong>of</strong> different<br />
techniques that can also be applied to cloth or paper. During this<br />
workshop you will create at least three goatskin plaquettes with<br />
your own special designs for your future reference. Fee: $170<br />
member, $215 non-member (including leather and board). Basic<br />
bookbinding skills required.<br />

This workshop will teach<br />
you how to repair torn and<br />
damaged cloth bindings.<br />
You will learn how to take<br />
apart damaged covers<br />

properly, replace linings,<br />
save or salvage endpapers,<br />
and otherwise repair bindings. During the workshop you should<br />
have at least two repairs completed. Fee: $90 member, $115<br />

the best approach to drawing<br />
strategies. Focus on developing a delicate hand with smooth<br />
graphite tone. You will start with a pale pencil under drawing,<br />
or grisaille, which will allow you to tackle a watercolor painting<br />
with confidence. You’ll achieve continuous tone both in your<br />
graphite and watercolor washes. Demonstrations and individual<br />
help will guide you toward a finished work as you discover a set<br />
<strong>of</strong> new skills and tricks ready to use in your future illustrations.<br />

Color Mixing, Water Color I, (Light on Form and Perspective<br />

Colored Pencil Techniques on Mylar<br />
Beauty is in the details. Fuzzy, thorny, rough, smooth; it’s all form<br />
on a small scale. Learn to see texture in a new way that allows<br />
you to create realistic textures using a variety <strong>of</strong> colored pencil<br />
techniques specific to Mylar film, including pencil application and<br />
layering techniques; how to make the back <strong>of</strong> the surface enhance<br />
the front; and how to erase colored pencil from Mylar. Through<br />
guided exercise and practice, assemble a collection <strong>of</strong> texture<br />
technique studies that you can reference for all future work. Fee:<br />
$95 member, $135 non-member. Prerequisites: Pencil I, Color<br />
Layering for Colored Pencils, Light on Form, Colored Pencil I,<br />
Colored Pencil II.<br />
