Report on Uturn’s summer mission
Dear OLA Family,
Our teens and adult chaperones journeyed together on a week-long mission trip in
Pasadena June 16-22. During our time together, we served with different organizations such
as the LA Food Bank, Enrich LA, and the Harambee House, which provided our room and
board for the week. We planted gardens, weeded, leveled plots of land, fixed gutters, organized
sheds, sorted food, and played with the children of Harambee House.
Each night, after completing our challenging service, we would eat dinner as a family
and begin the evening program where we were guided by the staff of Next Step Ministries
to take the “next step” in our walk with Christ. We were asked to reflect on whatever might
be holding us back from diving head-first into life in Christ, and challenged to be missionaries
to each other.
The most powerful night of our mission came on Wednesday evening when we
washed the feet of our fellow team members and prayed over each other. This time of prayer
and bonding brought each of us so close together. I know it was an experience that changed
our hearts forever.
Before leaving OLA, each of us was given a cross as a gift from the parish. Carrying
this cross with us on mission was a tangible reminder to us that we carried each of you with
us. This mission was life-changing for all, but none of it would have been possible without
the prayers, love, and support of our entire OLA community. We are thrilled to be able to
share our experiences with you at our Shareholders Dinner later in the summer! More information
about that will be provided to you in the upcoming month. Please continue to pray
for us as we pray for you!

Christian stewardship: “Out of love, place yourselves at one another’s service.”
Liturgy appreciation dinner
With 120 liturgical ministers in attendance, the recent evening “celebrating the joys of our ministry”
combined light-hearted humor with the more serious business
of giving thanks for the year-round service of hospitality ministers,
lectors, musicians, deacons, presiders, ministers of the
Holy Eucharist, planners, technicians, and the environment
team. These are the servant leaders of our worshipping community
who prove their commitment week after week at our
Masses and prayer services. We acknowledge not only the
quantity of hours given but the quality of their contribution.
