A familiar face graces our entry
Our new parish receptionist/secretary, Karina Pardo, received
a warm welcome upon returning home to OLA… a new job!
Karina left her position in the OLA office five and a half
years ago to take up residency in Mexico, explore her family’s
heritage and improve her fluency in Spanish. She visited various
regions of Mexico and strengthened ties to her extended family.
Meanwhile she remained connected to OLA through the parish
bulletin which is available online. That’s where she saw the
job opening, just as she was planning her return to California.
“God has ways of bringing people back,” she says. Karina
has always been oriented toward parish work, having served as an
altar server, an altar server leader, and a lector as a youth. She is
the daughter of Parishioners Julio and Sofia Pardo, who have been
active in the Spanish-speaking community. Her younger sister,
Cecilia, is working this year at the OLA Summer Camp. Besides
family time, Karina also enjoys reading and sight-seeing.

Last Sunday’s benefit concert and dinner for Jazmine Domenzain
was a huge success with over 300 parishioners in attendance. It was a
true miracle of community and selfless giving. Over $12,000 was
raised to assist Jazmine with her medical and living expenses. Jazmine
is so thankful for the outpouring of love, prayers and financial support.
Thank you to Father Charles for kicking the night off with prayer.
and to the U-turn ministry for providing drinks, hot dogs and helping
hands. Thanks to everyone who brought desserts and side dishes to
share and to the Knights of Columbus for barbequing. Thank you to
The Falconers (and lead singer Jazmine) for sharing your musical talents.
Special thanks to Father Chris, Deacon Bob, Teresa Arredondo,
Jeff Brown and Trevor Thomson for joining your voices on some very
special songs. Thank you to all the dancers for your soulful moves.
And one last thank you to the entire OLA community for being
Christ’s hands and feet.
