P A G E 12 COPLEY-FAIRLAWN CITY SCHOOLS PTA Pages Herberich Happenings PRESIDENT—Mrs. Christine Hohenshil Oh my goodness, the past two years have certainly flown by..... It's hard to believe we finally are seeing a few sunny days and have less than 2 weeks of school left! The past month has been another whirlwind of activity at Herberich. 3rd and 4th graders had perfect attendance for their Ohio Achievement Assessments in April. PTA supported them by providing a healthy snack and water each morning before the test. Then we helped celebrate by providing a pizza party and snacks for each of the classes after the tests The first week of May was staff appreciation. Once again, Deanna Matthies did an outstanding job of providing food, treats and raffles for our staff and teachers. Herberich also took a morning to provide treats for the Bus Drivers. It is very gratifying to show our appreciation to these special people in our children's lives Next was Muffins for Moms. Many, many thanks to the dads who stepped up so that the Moms could enjoy the breakfast. Thanks to Mark Elicker, Dale Sroka, Brian Kello, James Canode, Blake Matthies and Dave Hohenshil. And of course, there are several fun events planned for the last two weeks of school: Field Day, Relay for Life and 4th grade graduation!!!! Thanks to all the families who sent in used batteries for the battery recycling drive and gently -used books for the book drive. Keep them both coming in.... This is a very exciting yet wistful time of year for those of us who are graduating students from 4th grade into Middle School. And, not only is Herberich graduating a great group of 4th graders but we are also losing some wonderful longtime volunteers: Deanna Matthies, Staff Appreciation chairperson extraordinaire!!! Phyllis Bernel, room grandparent, Gingerbread Shop coordinator, concert set decorator Mark Elicker, Market Day volunteer Laurie Gamauf, Library Volunteer Coordinator We appreciate all your efforts on behalf of the students of Herberich and wish you well as your children move on to Middle School!!! I too am wistful as I wrap up the school year and work on the transition to incoming PTA president Romi Brozeit. Herberich has an unbelievable group of teachers, staff and parents who work together to teach our children. I have been so blessed to be a part of this community. We've laughed, we've cried (sometimes at the same time!!!), we've been there for each other & most important, we've managed to both learn and have fun!!!! So, many many thanks to Miss Ashcroft, ALL the teachers and staff, Mrs. Kerr, Mrs. Brennan, Mr. Smiraldo, Mr. Kerr, Mr. Cuigini, Mrs. Walton, Mrs. Wooley, Mr. Witschey, Mrs. Long-Rice, Ms. Sheppard, Mrs. Vanke, Mrs. Hanhold, Mrs. McMaster, Miss Kimberlin, Mrs. Van Horn, Romi, Kim, Marji, Renae, Marie, Anita, Danae, Lital, Nancy, Beth, Rich, Julie, Charles, Mark, Joelle, Deanna, Blake, Phyllis, Laurie, Laura, Sue, Stacy, Rita, Deidre, Diane, Tracy, Kelly, Patricia, Yukiko, Dale and all those I'm forgetting to mention. A special special thanks to Mrs. Neale-May for her seemingly endless patience with me and her cheerful, tireless work on behalf of the students of Herberich. Its been a privilege and a pleasure to work with all of you!!! I hope you all enjoy a well-deserved rest over the summer!!!!! ROMI BROZEIT Knitting Club Donates Blankets to Summit County Children Services Tuesday, May 24 representatives from the fall and spring knitting club presented Mrs. Julia Mothersbaugh of Summit County Children Services with two blankets they knitted this year. The group voted to have the blankets donated to the Visitors Center of Children Services where over 700 children visit per year. There children will experience the love from Herberich children as they take comfort with the blankets. Each knitter contributed their own knitted square which was then crocheted into a blanket by instructor Mrs. Allison Chrien. The blankets were beautiful. Herberich is very proud of our knitters for working together to create these blankets and then choose to give them to others in challenging circumstances. Knitters this fall and spring included: Emma Canode, Kiara Cobb, Lindsay Cotleur, Ava Duluc, Sayaka Eguchi, Lauren Elicker, Erin Elliott, Alexis Heap, Marinna Hill, Allison Hohenshil, Amanda Hohenshil, Katya Itibrout, Susie Kleines, Luna Kobayashi, Chance Marks, Erin Matthies, Paige Myers, Hannah Parker, Emily Reese, Ava Serge, Georgie Shinn, Colleen Sroka, Mea’nah Witherspoon and Stella Won. Thanks thanks thanks for your support of Herberich's fundraisers!!!! Our Box tops collections have raised over $2200. Market Day raised over $3000. The Chuck E Cheese night raised $350. We still have one SCRIP order to go … help us record $1000 from that fundraiser. These funds allowed us to make a donation to purchase additional baskets of books for 100 book challenge. They also paid for Staff Appreciation events, 3rd & 4th grade snacks and pizza parties for Ohio Achievement Assessment week, Muffins for Moms, snacks for Relay for Life and Field Day and 4th grade graduation cupcakes. We will be planning a special school event to thank all the students for their help in collecting box tops. Even if you are not able to volunteer much, participating in fundraisers is a great way to show your support for Herberich!!!! Christine Hohenshil, President SCRIP—Mrs. Laura Poundstone Summer is upon us already and we are so close to having raised $1000 with the SCRIP program. Help us get there by placing a final order this year. If every family buys just one $10 card, we will generate a huge profit. Stock up on sunscreen at area drugstores like Rite-Aid and Walgreens. Gas cards can be used for road trips and away ballgames. Old Navy, Macy's & Childrens Place cards are available for summer outfits and swimwear. Stock up on Giant Eagle cards to earn fuelperks all summer. Thank you to all the families who have placed an order this year!
