named as <strong>on</strong>e <strong>of</strong> two executive directors<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nati<strong>on</strong>al Black <strong>Law</strong> Students<br />
Associati<strong>on</strong>…He served as a<br />
special assistant to <strong>the</strong> NBLSA board in<br />
2002-03, is new president <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> campus<br />
BLSA chapter, winner <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Clifford Crandall<br />
Memorial Scholarship, named to UF<strong>Law</strong>’s<br />
Trial Team in February,and voted<br />
in <strong>the</strong> spring BLSA’s Male Student <strong>of</strong> Year…<br />
O’Neal has also been awarded a $3,000<br />
Nati<strong>on</strong>al Bar Institute African American <strong>Law</strong><br />
Student Fellowship. NBI awards are given<br />
annually to a maximum <strong>of</strong> three students –<br />
all who must be carrying a full class load,<br />
have at least two c<strong>on</strong>secutive years as a fulltime<br />
law student, and intend to return to <strong>the</strong><br />
Black community to practice law <strong>on</strong>ce legal<br />
training is completed.<br />

West Palm Beach’s Kimberly Ro<strong>the</strong>nburg,<br />
Fall 3L, was named this summer by The<br />
<strong>Florida</strong> Bar Standing Committee <strong>on</strong><br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essi<strong>on</strong>alism as winner <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Li<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
Justice trophy (to be housed at UF<strong>Law</strong> for<br />
<strong>on</strong>e year) for her winning entry in <strong>the</strong><br />
annual law student Pr<strong>of</strong>essi<strong>on</strong>alism Essay<br />
c<strong>on</strong>test… Entitled “Pr<strong>of</strong>essi<strong>on</strong>alism:<br />
No Laughing Matter,” Ro<strong>the</strong>nburg’s essay<br />
was praised by <strong>Florida</strong> Supreme Court<br />
Justice Raoul Cantero III, who noted, “it<br />
not <strong>on</strong>ly identified problems but also identified<br />
soluti<strong>on</strong>s,” and praised Ro<strong>the</strong>nburg<br />
for “precocious and c<strong>on</strong>scientious<br />
thought”… The essay, selected by<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Amy Mashburn as <strong>the</strong> best to<br />
submit, earns Ro<strong>the</strong>nburg $1,000 as <strong>the</strong><br />
winning entry.<br />

FEBRUARY INSIGHT INVITED<br />
WHY IP LAW? What about Envir<strong>on</strong>mental? Sports <strong>Law</strong>? Health? Elder <strong>Law</strong>?<br />
Thanks to expected participati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> more than 20 <strong>Florida</strong> law firms and<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir representatives, UF<strong>Law</strong> students will hear next February about<br />
<strong>the</strong> realities <strong>of</strong> practicing law. Occasi<strong>on</strong> will be <strong>the</strong> third annual Career<br />
Development C<strong>on</strong>ference where students get opportunity to network with<br />
leading practiti<strong>on</strong>ers and learn more about practice <strong>of</strong> law in<br />
particular fields.<br />
Following formats <strong>of</strong> previous c<strong>on</strong>ferences, attorneys will discuss<br />
estates and trusts, envir<strong>on</strong>mental and land use law, intellectual<br />
property, bankruptcy, litigati<strong>on</strong>, real estate, alternative careers, corporati<strong>on</strong>s,<br />
criminal law, internati<strong>on</strong>al law, labor and employment law, tax,<br />
government and public law and family law. The event ends with a<br />
Career Networking Recepti<strong>on</strong>.<br />
