PCIE Validation Methodology Functional Testing • The problem with functional testing is completeness – “Has sufficient testing been done?” • It is impossible to exhaustively test all behaviors and parameters. • There is always a possibility that some untried combination of parameters and sequences would reveal a new behavior that is unacceptable. • A two tiered approach is used here, where exhaustive tests are to be carried out in the functional block level by the sub block designers, but even this is not exhaustive. 7
