Seminar on Emerging<br />
Trends in Private Equity<br />
The Tamil Nadu Branch organized a seminar on The Seminar was attended by participants from 105<br />
“Emerging Trends in Private Equity” on 6 January 2011 at companies, with participants numbering 190 of which<br />
Shera<strong>to</strong>n Park Hotel, Chennai.<br />
158 were paid delegates.<br />
The seminar was significant in context of private equity<br />
emerging as a major investment source in India and<br />
which has significantly grown during <strong>the</strong> last few years.<br />
In <strong>the</strong> Inaugural session, a welcome address was given by<br />
N. V. Srinivasan, Chairman, IACC (TN). R. Anand,<br />
Regional Vice-President, IACC (SIC) addressed <strong>the</strong><br />
ga<strong>the</strong>ring on <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>me of <strong>the</strong> Seminar. Andrew T Simkin,<br />
U.S. Consul General, Chennai, was <strong>the</strong> Chief Guest.<br />
Rajiv Memani, Country Managing Partner, Ernst & Young<br />
delivered <strong>the</strong> Keynote address, in which he spoke about<br />
<strong>the</strong> origin, different phases and <strong>the</strong> potentials of private<br />
equity globally. Raman Govindarajan, Vice-Chairman,<br />
IACC (TN) gave <strong>the</strong> vote of thanks.<br />
The seminar had a line-up of five sessions concentrating<br />
on Entry and Exit Strategies, Perspectives on Valuation,<br />
Investee Experience, Legal Governance and Covenants<br />
and <strong>the</strong> final session dealt with practical case studies on<br />
private equity participation and contribution <strong>to</strong>wards<br />
organizational growth.<br />
Overall <strong>the</strong> seminar highlighted on recent trends in<br />
private equity, key enablers of <strong>the</strong> private equity deals with<br />
its structure and finally <strong>the</strong> case studies gave practical<br />
learning for <strong>the</strong> group assembled. The key considerations<br />
for PE funds are valuation, exit route, returns and<br />
regulations. Today, when everyone looks <strong>to</strong>wards a winwin<br />
situation <strong>the</strong> deal making activity has become<br />
complex. Higher emphasis is on performance and<br />
market potential; with funds extending in<strong>to</strong> untapped<br />
sec<strong>to</strong>rs that may be regulated. Developing a right<br />
structure can help facilitate investments keeping in mind<br />
interests of all parties.<br />
