GOES LIVE!
We are very pleased to announce
that this month will see the
launch of the new clinical audit
online system.
The innovative computer system will
revolutionise how clinical audits are
managed throughout the Foundation Trust
and it is expected to become an essential
tool in our continued commitment to
quality assurance and improvement.
From June 8 all Foundation Trust employees
who have computer access will be able
to log in to the system and manage their
current clinical audit projects in real time.
Staff will be able to develop their own
clinical audit portfolio as well as viewing the
results of other projects that are carried out
in other specialties.
Good quality clinical audit is an important
tool for ensuring that specialties provide
the safest practice-based care for our
patients. In addition to this, clinical audit
is a requirement for Board assurance,
external regulators and revalidation. The
new system will allow the
Foundation Trust and specialty
Clinical Governance Leads to be
fully aware of all of the valuable
audit work that is being done
and ensure to that everyone’s
efforts are recorded and
supported.
The Deputy Medical Director
for Clinical Governance, Dr
Robin Jeffrey, said: “It is recognised that
the Foundation Trust carries out a large
numbers of clinical audit projects each
year. Historically the challenge has been to
ensure that this vast amount of audit work is
officially recorded and linked to the strategic
direction of our organisation.
“This new system will drive quality within
audits by promoting consistency, aiding
action planning and providing assurance.
This will lead to improved quality outcomes
and support clinical efficiency.”
The system has been entirely developed inhouse
through joint collaboration between
From left, Web Content Manager,
Imran Azad with Clinical
Governance Support Officers,
Tom Furber and Linda Cutter
the Clinical Governance Department and
the Web Team in the Planning Department.
Many thanks must also be given to all the
staff who have contributed the development
of the system.
The system can be accessed through the
Clinical Governance intranet website and
the Trust Intranet home page (under web
applications). If you require any further
NEW DIALYSIS
UNIT FOR BRI
The new Renal Dialysis Unit at the BRI
has opened following a £180,000
refurbishment of the former cochlear
implant service accommodation next to
A&E.
The new unit provides haemodialysis to
inpatients on the BRI site ensuring that
seriously ill patients and those already on
dialysis therapy receive their treatment on
one site rather than having to transfer to
SLH for their treatment.
The Peritoneal Dialysis Service which also
transferred to the new unit enables staff to
assess, treat and support any patient who is
admitted to BRI site more efficiently.
Matron Lacey said: “We are delighted with
the new unit as it enables the Renal Team to
provide continuity of care to patients on the
BRI site. The move has also improved safety
and quality as well as contributing greatly to
the inpatient experience.
“We have received positive feedback from
day patients who have visited the unit since
it opened on March 1 and we look forward
to developing the service further as it
becomes more established on this site.”
The former cochlear
implant area had
been vacant for 14
months and was
being used for
storage before the
refurbishment work
for the new unit,
which took six weeks
to complete, began.
Matron Chris Lacey with
staff at the new renal
dialysis unit
The whole
department was completely refurbished
to include four beds and two peritoneal
dialysis treatment rooms for day-patients.
The area also boasts a self-contained
treatment room, a clinic, male and female
toilets, kitchen, utility rooms and storage
facility.
There are three acute bed bays and a
single bedroom each kitted out with the
latest technology to enable those seriously
ill patients from other wards to have their
dialysis treatment at the new unit.
The two peritoneal dialysis rooms for daypatients
include individual treatment beds
and personal TVs to ensure a relaxed and
comfortable environment.
Estates’ Project Manager for Design, Shane
Embleton, said: “Contractors worked
weekends and late evenings to ensure the
completion date was met and the area has
been transformed from a dull cold space
into a bright and warm environment for all.
”The unit is simply decorated, with neutral
colours, patterned ceilings and etched
windows in order to create a calm and
peaceful environment for patients.”
The new Dialysis Unit can be found on
Level 0 between radiology and A&E.
Opening hours are Monday to Saturday
8am-6pm. For more information contact
the Dialysis Unit Reception on 3254.
