PLAYER DEVELOPMENT 20.4 DOUBLES LEAGUES a b c Area or Zone Leagues operate at "arms length" to Squash B.C. Each season they provide approximately six months of scheduled league play. Leagues generally provide weekly inter-club competition at all levels of skill for both men and women. Participating clubs must be full members of Squash B.C. and all participants are required to be current Individual Members of Squash B.C. 20.5 DOUBLES TOURNAMENTS Doubles tournaments are divided up into divisions based on age, gender and doubles experience. The following is a “guide” to where players should place themselves in tournaments. a Open i) Win two Div. 1 tournaments b Division 1 i) A and B class singles players with limited doubles experience and players promoted from Div. 2 ii) Win Div. 2 to be promoted to Div. 1 c Division 2 i) C and D singles players. d Women's Open i) Open to women players e Women's Division 2 i) C and D class women players. ii) Win Div. 2 to be promoted to Open f Mixed Division 1 i) A and B class singles players and those promoted from Div. 2 g Mixed Division 2 i) C and D class singles players. ii) Win an event to be promoted to Div. 1 h Veterans 40+ i) Must be 40+ at start date of tournament i Veterans 50+ i) Must be 50+ at start date of tournament j Veterans 60+ i) Must be 60+ at start date of tournament 20.6 The Doubles Committee has the right to combine divisions/classes of play for tournaments as entries dictate, as well as right to classify or reclassify a team or player, in keeping with sportsmanship and fair play. PLAYER DEVELOPMENT 21 ATHLETE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM POLICIES Minimum Requirements before you apply: 21.1 Minimum coaches level as per minimum standards on page four. 21.2 Must be 14 years of age as of October 31 st in the year of funding. 21.3 Must be familiar with Beyond the Nick Development plan and presently in the “Learning &Training to Win” phase. http://www.squash.ca/LTPD/index.htm 21.4 Must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant and be a resident of BC for one year of the date of applying for BC AAP funding. 21.5 The use of banned substances is strictly prohibited. 21.6 Athletes who are suspended by Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport and/or their International Sport Federation will be declared permanently ineligible for BC AAP. 21.7 Must be available for BC Provincial Teams unless competing for the National Team. 21.8 Must be on a yearly training plan and attend a minimum 1 out of province event and all the provincial championships for their category in each calendar year. 21.9 If an athlete has gone through the Squash BC Junior Program, they must be a certified Foundations Coach by their last year of Juniors. 21.10 Must be a member in good standing of Squash BC in the year of the funding application. 21.11 The selection committee will comprise of a board volunteer, level 3 or higher coach, Junior Development committee chair and a Squash BC staff member. 21.12 Athletes may appeal the decisions of the selection criteria under the Squash BC Appeals policy. http://www.squashbc.com/about/policies_procedures.htm. 21.13 It is a NCAA athlete’s responsibility to check with NCAA guidelines before applying for and accepting funding. FUNDING AMOUNTS 21.14 Funding amounts will depend on how many athletes apply for AAP funding. The selection criterion to determine the amount an athlete will be awarded follows these steps. a The committee will place you in the appropriate level based on your application. b Once the athletes are placed at their level the maximum amount they could receive will be place beside their name. Depending on the grant amount and the number of athletes who have applied will depend on the percentage of the maximum amount you may receive. (See example table.) The next table shows the total amount available is $6405.50. In this example we will award each athlete 56% of the top award. (The total amount may change depending on funding available.)
