A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT It was another busy summer here at the Park District! Almost 400 children attended our various summer camp programs, making new friends and happy memories. Hopefully you and your family were able to enjoy some of our other activities as well, which included the Fourth of July celebration, outdoor flea markets, and the free movies and concerts at Main Park. Our first annual “President’s Cup” Golf Outing was a huge success, and I would like to extend my thanks to all our sponsors and golfers. All the proceeds from this event went to The Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation, a not-forprofit organization providing gifts to children and teens who have been diagnosed with cancer. This Foundation supports more than 7,900 children each month at one of 42 hospitals nationwide, and the Park District Foundation was pleased to be able to assist in this most worthy cause. As the temperature begins to cool a bit and the leaves change colors, plan to spend some time visiting your local parks. The new Fox Ridge Park, located in the Foxborough/ Boulder Ridge subdivisions, will be completed by the fall. We think you’ll be pleased with the amenities our newest park site will have to offer. I hope to see you at the Park District’s biggest event of the year, our 31st annual Halloween Hollow, which due to its recent popularity, is being extended an additional day this year! The frightfully good time begins on Friday evening, October 12, with rides, free stage entertainment, and our Monster Market and Freaky Food Court. The fun continues on Saturday and Sunday, October 13 & 14. Also new this year, the Park District is teaming up with “The Scary House on Fiona” to offer a PG-13 Haunted Trail at the Main Park woods on the three weekends before Halloween. Further details can be found inside this brochure. Join us and get in the “spirit” of Halloween (costumes optional). With the holiday season fast approaching, we’ll once again be making “Stockings For Our Troops” on Sunday, November 11. We’ll supply all the materials to make and decorate the stockings; bring your family and help spread some cheer to those who are serving our country and won’t be home this holiday season. Donations of stocking stuffers are needed. As we head into the final season of the year, I would like to thank you for all your support and interest in the Park District. Please take a few minutes to page through our fall brochure and take a look at the new programs, trips, and special events we have planned. As always, the Board of Commissioners and staff welcome any suggestions or comments you might have.
