Over the years, Akron Community
Foundation has remained committed to
making our cities, neighborhoods and
natural surroundings safe, clean and healthy.
Each summer during the civic affairs quarter,
grants from the Community Fund are made
to organizations to improve the quality of life

In 1978, Akron Community Foundation made a $ 60,895
grant for a new exhibit at the zoo: the Paul Belcher Aviary.
The structure’s design was the first of its kind to encompass
the birds and the visitor. It was considered so revolutionary
that several other zoos across the nation copied it.
