What is SEAS? Scholarships for domestic students The following scholarships are available to domestic students commencing at the University of Melbourne in 2012. You are a domestic student if you are: • An Australian citizen • An Australian permanent resident (including Australian permanent humanitarian visa holders) • A New Zealand citizen. SEAS stands for Special Entry Access Scheme, a program that allows all universities participating in the VTAC system to receive applications for their special entry schemes. In order to be eligible for many access and equity scholarships at the University of Melbourne, you must submit a SEAS application through VTAC. Each of the Access Melbourne eligibility criteria corresponds to a SEAS category. Once you have submitted a course application through VTAC you can access the SEAS application through the MyInfo section of the VTAC website. For more information about Access Melbourne and SEAS application, go to: www.access.unimelb.edu.au Benefits Eligibility Applications Melbourne National Scholarships VCE and Victorian IB students: • A HECS exempt Commonwealth Supported Place • $5000 annual allowance for the normal duration of an undergraduate degree. Interstate Year 12 and IB students: • A HECS exempt Commonwealth Supported Place • $10 000 annual allowance for the normal duration of an undergraduate degree • One return flight home during the course. Number available: Scholarships awarded to all students who meet the eligibility criteria. All students who meet the following criteria will be offered a Melbourne National Scholarship: • Achieve an ATAR or notional ATAR of 99.90 or above (or Indigenous students who achieve an ATAR of 90.0 or above) • Complete an Australian Year 12 or the International Baccalaureate (IB) in 2011 • Satisfy the prerequisites for their nominated course • Have not undertaken any previous study at tertiary level (excluding TAFE and extension studies undertaken as part of a Year 12 program). www.services.unimelb.edu.au/scholarships/ugrad/future/national.html Students must apply through VTAC for a University of Melbourne course in 2012. VTAC application dates apply. No separate scholarship application is required. Domestic students selected into the Chancellor’s Scholars’ Program are guaranteed a Melbourne National Scholarship. Benefits Eligibility Applications Melbourne Access Scholarships • Annual allowance for the normal duration of an undergraduate degree: – First year $6500 – Second year $4000 – Third year $3000 Number available: Up to 160. Students must be eligible for one or more of the following Access Melbourne categories: • Disadvantaged financial background • Applicants from rural or isolated areas • Under-represented schools • Difficult circumstances • Disability or medical condition • Non-English speaking background • Recognition as an Indigenous Australian • Mature-age consideration (non-school leaver entry pathway). Melbourne National Equity Scholarships • A HECS exempt Commonwealth Supported Place • $5000 annual allowance for the normal duration of an undergraduate degree. Number available: 10. Students must be eligible for one or more of the following Access Melbourne categories: • Disadvantaged financial background • Applicants from rural or isolated areas • Under-represented schools. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit as demonstrated by ATAR or equivalent and information contained in the SEAS application. Students must apply through VTAC for a University of Melbourne course in 2012. Students must also submit a SEAS application through VTAC. SEAS applications open 1 August and close 11 October 2011. Number available: Up to three. Students must be eligible for one or more of the following Access Melbourne categories: • Disadvantaged financial background • Applicants from rural or isolated areas • Under-represented schools. Students must also: • Have attended school and resided within a 250km radius of the Mildura GPO for at least 12 months preceding the date of their application • Require assistance with the expense of moving to Melbourne and with living expenses and/or tuition fees during their course. Students must apply through VTAC for a University of Melbourne course in 2012. Students must also submit a SEAS application through VTAC. SEAS applications open 1 August and close 11 October 2011.
