virtually impossible while living where
I’m from [in regional Victoria], so
coming to Melbourne to study was
a necessity.
The benefit of the support I’ve
received from these scholarships is
that I have less financial pressure and
strain resulting from studying away
from home. It allows me to focus on
completing my studies, and it also
gives me both a networking
opportunity and a mentor to help me
gain the most out of my degree.”
Bachelor of Commerce
“Being awarded the scholarship
is of great benefit to me as it has
enabled me to study here at the
best university in Australia. Without
it, I would have had less chance of
coming here because of the huge
cost of university fees in my currency.
My course is interesting and I like the
diversity of cultures at the University.
I now have friends from all over
the world.”

Residential
scholarships
Student Profile
The University’s residential
colleges collectively offer
up to $3.5 million in financial
assistance, scholarships
and bursaries to students
each year.
The University’s 11 undergraduate
colleges offer outstanding support for
students. In 2012, financial support from
the colleges will assist over 600
undergraduate students to experience
life as part of a collegiate community.
As well as scholarships for academic
excellence, many scholarships
specifically assist students from a range
of diverse backgrounds, including
regional and rural students, international
students, Indigenous students, refugees
and students who are the first in their
family to attend university. Some
scholarships are also awarded on the
basis of course, community involvement,
leadership potential, and abilities in
music and sport.
Many colleges also provide financial
support in the form of bursaries to
students whose financial situation may
prevent them from being able to live at
college, and some colleges employ
students to provide additional
assistance.
Bachelor of Biomedicine
“Coming from Darwin, College
immediately provided me with a
vibrant and supportive community
and a place I can call home in
Melbourne. At College, there is
always a friend to talk to, something
to celebrate, a game to play, sport to
watch and something to eat!
Assistance from scholarships and
bursaries has helped me to stay in
College for the length of my degree.”
The University also offers a range of other grants, prizes, awards and bursaries to our
students. Grants are available to undertake volunteering or leadership activities,
awards and prizes are available for outstanding academic achievement, and
bursaries are available for a variety of needs.
Once you’re a student at Melbourne, make sure you check with your relevant faculty
or student centre to find out about the grants, prizes and awards available.
Scholarship and bursary support usually
includes a reduction in fees, ranging from
around 5 per cent to 100 per cent
remission of fees. Colleges often require
an application for scholarships or
assistance.
with Melbourne veterinary students and the Kalandan Foundation, which assists in the
reduction of the wild brumby population in the Snowy Mountains, as well as giving
disadvantaged youths an opportunity to work with horses in their Brumby Camp Program.
