The Parade The Newsletter of the Shire of Heraldshill Volume 4 Issue 26 July/Aug/Sept A.D. MMXII (2012) Kingdom A & S Cross and Compass This year Heraldshill hosted the Kingdom A&S on May 5, 2012. I had never been to one before so it was fun to see what they are all about. I was surprised at the number of people that brought their entries and how great they all were. I was honored to be one of the Judges on a wine and also on a wire weaving entry. I know I learned as much or more than the person that had brought the entry. I would like to add that if you get a chance to be a judge do not hesitate. There are at least three judges per entry, and you give your (Continued on Page 3.) There will be Armored Combat, Archery, A and S Competitions, Classes, Feasting, Inns, Equestrian, merchanting, Heraldic Consulting, and Youth Activities. (Continued on Page 5.) We also had an Inn that Juliana ran and I volunteered to help since we were not having any archery activities. Stasi and I baked quite a few loaves of bread, and even though it was a lot of work it was fulfilling to see the smiles on people faces at their second or third pass at the bread line. We also ran out of soup and nearly everything else. There were a lot of pleased participants and I was one of them. Kingdom A & S In Service HL William Fletcher of Carbery Running Inn this time was a bit different. After being used to serving Inn out of the small kitchen, it felt strange to have all the room of the big kitchen to work with. I forgot a couple of times where I put things because of all the space. Breakfast Saturday morning was a lighter fare than I usually do. Muffins, breakfast casseroles, bananas and the ever so important coffee. My thanks to Antonia for providing six dozen muffins for Inn. Noon Inn consisted of the artisan breads William baked, minestrone and vegetarian soup, cheeses, carrots, celery and fruit. I also had quick breads and our ever famous Animal Crackers and frosting. For fruit, Antonia had carved a watermelon helm complete with the Calatrava carved on the side. Again my thanks to Antonia for carving the bowl. Even though I had more than doubled the amount of minestrone I usually make, we did run out. We also ran out of the vegetarian soup. My thanks to Sifrid and Gregorii for their help with the Inn by chopping vegetables, (Continued on Page 4.) 3
