Fyrd Retreat
Juliana and I were able to attend this
year’s Fyrd retreat, at Missouri’s Crowder
State Park, and we had an interesting and
wonderful time. We were able to have an
entire weekend that included archery,
thrown weapons, and fighting. We only
took part in the archery and thrown weapons,
but it was a real opportunity to experience
the true meaning of being part of the
Order of the Fyrd. I greatly enjoyed doing
only what I wanted and that was having time
to really get used to throwing knifes and axes
in a location other than my own, and being
able to do it as long as I wanted with no
other distractions. It was also fun to get
other people interested in both the throwing
of weapons and the shooting of arrows.
The Saturday night Feast consisted of
bring your own meat and a side, and of
course a beverage. We were part of the largest
multiple type of meat barbeque that I
have ever witnessed. After that was the fire
ring with stories of the history of the Fyrd
and what they are about.
I know a lot of people will not be fortunate
enough ever go to one of these, but I
truly believe that deep down all of Calontir
is just like the Fyrd, because that is where we
come from. Every time I take the line at an
event at home in Calontir, or more so at an
event outside of our boarders, I see and feel
the immense power and pride of Calontir
and all of it’s household. I wish to invite
those that want to take a bigger step in being
part of this to seek out those that can help
you and I am sure they will.
