HEATHER TOLAND

REACHING
FOR DREAMS
heather toland
NVP
Independent Consultant, National Vice-President
Heather Toland Nation; Epping, NH
I hope as you read this EOA that something resonates with you on a personal
level. There is a reason why you received this EOA: Fate works in mysterious
ways. Regardless of fate’s reasons, “Congratulations”, because it could be
the start to an amazing future!
Arbonne is about giving you options and choices! I recognized immediately
that this company and opportunity was special. However, I had no idea how
life changing it would be for me personally, as well as for my family.
For starters, Arbonne reminded me what it is like to dream big again. Dreaming
about the ideal future was something I did not spend a lot of time doing. I felt
that unless I won the lottery (which is difficult when you do not buy lottery tickets),
there were no way my dreams would ever come to fruition given on our
current circumstances. I was very grateful to have a loving husband, a healthy
son, a beautiful home and two full time salaries that allowed us to pay our
bills. We had the added bonus of my parents living next to us so my son was
enjoying the benefits of having his grandparent’s right next door. What I did
not realize at the time was I was settling. I did not understand I had options that
could truly enhance my life and my family’s life in a huge way.
When I was pregnant with my son I desperately wanted to find a job that
would allow me to work a flexible schedule from home so we wouldn’t have
to put him in daycare fulltime. However, despite my continuous search for this
“dream job” I was not able to find anything that would pay me the salary
we needed to ensure we stayed afloat financially. So I did the responsible
thing and went back to work full time when my son Devon was only four
months old. Our work week meant dropping Devon off at a daycare facility
for ten hour days, five days a week. It was not what I had envisioned when
I became a mom — seeing my son one to two hours a day, if I was lucky,
during the work week.
It took a sense of urgency for me to realize that unless I did something different
our situation was never going to change. I had eleven months before
Devon started first grade so this kicked me out my complacency and into high
gear when I realized that Arbonne was the “dream job” my family had been
looking for. I knew if I fully committed to my Arbonne business and followed
the system in place, I would be able to finally have choices and options that
my family did not have with my husband and I working for someone else. For
the first eleven months that I built my Arbonne business I continued working
my full time paralegal job with my hour commute a day until I met my goal for
RVP qualification. At that point, I gave my notice, left corporate work forever
and promoted out to RVP level in fourteen months from my start month.
The reason why I saw success with my business is because from the start
I realized that starting a home based business is no different than being
accountable at a day job. I acted like I could get fired if I did not go to work
and stay in activity consistently. I understood that just like any other thing in
life, you have to work hard to get what you want! There is no way that
I would have been able to go to Region level in the timeframe I wanted
to if I did my business only when I felt like it! I experienced many “no’s”, I
had to deal with family illnesses, including my own, the deaths of loved
ones, and many other obstacles that life presents us. I just kept doing
my business regardless! During the eleven month period of time that I
worked full time in my corporate day job and worked my Arbonne business,
I made a lot of temporary sacrifices. My “why” for doing this business,
to spend quality time with my son, was the thing I sacrificed the
most while building my business. Yes, I missed some bedtime stories,
I missed taking him to his friend’s birthday parties and I even missed
some family functions. We were willing to make those sacrifices for a
short period of time to change our lives for the better for a lifetime! That
is exactly what Arbonne has done for us!
In hindsight I feel my journey with Arbonne started when I became
a Regional Vice President. I have had many realizations as I went
from Region to Nation level. Region was not my ultimate goal for my
business. I knew from the start that I wanted to be an NVP with this
company. Going to RVP level was huge and enabled me to not only
replace my corporate salary but to exceed it. Of course, utilizing the
Mercedes-Benz Cash Bonus Program was also a wonderful and exciting
perk. However, staying at Region level would not give my family
financial freedom so that my husband could also have choices. Of
course it made a huge positive impact on our financial situation, but
personally I could not leave on the table the average paycheck an
NVP earns compared to the average paycheck of a RVP. I also realized
that if I stayed a Region that meant that I was not duplicating out
and affecting other lives like I knew I could if I strove towards Nation
level. I needed to think of Region as the half way point to my business,
not the end point!
I remained a RVP for three years because I did not stay in consistent personal
activity. Instead of embracing the same principles I used going to
Region, like getting in front of 30 people a month, I took my foot off the
gas pedal. I worked really hard getting to Region level so it was easy
for me to justify why I did not need to continue doing what I was encouraging
my team to do — stay in consistent activity telling the Arbonne
story. I failed to keep things in perspective. I used to work a 40-hourplus
job for someone else, helping them get wealthy. I commuted an
hour a day five times a week and if I was lucky I would receive a 4-6%
pay increase a year. I had little to no freedom or flexibility with my
hours. A normal Arbonne week for me is an average of 20-25 hours
per week, a completely flexible schedule that allows me to work my
business around my family. I benefit from a generous compensation
plan, the ability for me to create a residual income that will continue
to benefit me and my family even when I am not “on the clock,” I drive
a beautiful Mercedes-Benz, earn unbelievable family vacations every
year and have a three second commute to my home office where I
can work from my pajamas if I wanted to. I realized I was still a RVP
because I needed to go back to the basics — personal activity.
To my first ACE, ERVP Dianna Larocque: You are home with your
daughter like we talked about endlessly at the law firm! How many
times did we say to each other “there has to be something better
than this out there?” I am so thankful that you decided to do this
business with me!
To RVP Tammy Royal: You reminded me what this business is all about
— personal activity and self-development equals success in this business!
You are inspirational to everyone that meets you!
To RVP Melanie Davis: You are the example of patience, perseverance and
never giving up on your dreams. I am thrilled for you and your family!
REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT
To everyone that is a part of the Heather Toland Nation: Nation does
not happen without a team of people working together. Thank you for
your support, teamwork and dedication to making Nation happen for
our team. Treat your business like a business, stay consistent with your
activity and never give up! The only people that do not succeed in this
business are the people that quit!
To ENVP Lynne Ganley. How can I possibly express my thanks to you?
You were determined to share the gift of Arbonne with me despite how
difficult I was to pin down. Thank you for your friendship, support and
belief in me throughout my journey to Nation. I cannot even imagine
what life would look like if you had not introduced Arbonne to me!
To my crossline friends in Arbonne: Thank you for your support and friendships;
that is what makes this company and opportunity so special.
To my husband, Bill, who never stopped believing in me from the day
I started my business. Your complete faith and confidence in me kept
me strong and determined along the way. You were always willing to
help out at home with whatever needed to be done without complaint.
I love you.
To my son, Devon: You were my “why” for starting my Arbonne business.
I am so proud to be your mom. I love that I now can be such a
big part of your life. You were what I thought of in the difficult times and
it kept me going no matter what.
To my parents: You have supported me in different ways throughout
my journey to Nation. Initially your concern over me starting my
Arbonne business drove me to show you that I knew what I was doing!
Regardless of your initial feelings about the business you were always
there to help in any way when it came to caring for Devon. Once I
Heather with RVPs Tammy Royal and Melanie Davis.
became a Region you never doubted I would be an NVP. Thank you
for believing in me.
To my in-laws, family and loyal customers: Thank you for always taking
me up on my specials, for asking how my business is going and for
appreciating how truly amazing Arbonne’s products are and for wanting
them for yourself and your families!
I hope by reading my story that it will encourage you to research this
opportunity further and truly understand what this company can do for
you. Recognize what you have in your hands, take control of your life
and let nothing stop you from reaching your dreams!
