The Electronic Control Unit for the
spin fixture allows you to choose the
direction of rotation, activate the
strobe and control the spinning rpm.
When you switch the motor off, the
dynamic braking capability brings the
distributor to a smooth, quick halt.
At the base of the Spin Fixture is
a CNC machined timing ring marked
off in one degree increments
(camshaft degrees). Four bright,
high rate strobes provide repeatable
accuracy and make it easy to read.
aving the best ignition components on your race car is imperative to achieving
complete performance. Having the right tools to set up the ignition
system is just as important.
To perform up to its full potential, a professionally built engine needs a professionally
tuned distributor. This means knowing everything about the distributor including
its timing advance. Plotting the exact rpm that the centrifugal advance begins to advance
the timing, the rate of advance and how much occurs is vital to all out performance.
Plus, there are even more details in altering the timing of each cylinder for
specific engine combinations.
MSD has the ignition components you
need for a reliable and high output ignition
system. Now, we offer you the ultimate shop
tool so you can be sure to get the most out of
your ignition system! The Professional Distributor
Spin Fixture is the first all new distributor
machine designed specifically for
high rpm testing.
With years of experience communicating
with top engine builders, MSD engineers
have re-invented the distributor spin fixture!
This all new, state-of-the-art machine provides
engine builders with unmatched precision
in setting up a high performance distributor.
You will not find a more accurate distributor fixture! The timing ring is CNCmachined
from a billet of aluminum and there are four professional-grade photographer
strobes so the timing indicators are easy to view. Also, the electronics behind the
scenes are engineered to keep the timing/strobes accurate at racing rpm. Since an
ignition control is used to fire the strobes, you will be seeing repeatable, high rpm
trigger signals. An Industrial Grade Baldor two horsepower, 220 3-phase motor
easily turns the 3-jaw chuck and is capable of reaching up to 12,000 rpm.
Every part of the Professional Spin Fixture is brand
new and engineered for durability. The robust distributor
housing clamps are CNC machined and have a threaded
spin crank making it easy to lock most any distributor
into position. It can even be used to spin the MSD Pro
Mag 44 with the optional set-up brackets.
A heavy duty three jaw lathe chuck secures the
distributor shaft or gear to the drive motor. The grip of the
dies are designed to last for years of service and spinning
strength. A band clamp style magneto requires Adapter,
PN 9208.

Meets SAE Standars, J-250X????
Load Bank, PN 8999
MSD also offers a special Load Bank that allows you to alter
the load placed on the ignition system, just like on a running
engine. The Load Bank will provide you the ability to monitor
the entire ignition system with an oscilloscope (not supplied)
and without a costly high voltage probe.
Through the use of capacitors and resistors, the MSD Load
Bank knocks the secondary voltage of the ignition down to 1000:1
so a typical scope can capture and read this signal. The amperage
is also stepped down to a 0.1 amp per each volt so it can also be
monitored. By reducing the ignition’s output you don’t need an
expensive probe. There is also a probe calibration set up so most
any scope and probe can be used. When used in conjunction
with the Pressure Chamber, you’ll be able to monitor the coil’s
output voltage and current, or even the output across each spark
plug gap.
If you want to monitor the complete
ignition system with an oscilloscope,
this Load Bank will provide everything
you need. Meets SAE Test Standard J973.
Pressure Chamber, PN 9207
This is as close as you can get to running the engine! The Pressure Chamber allows you to duplicate the pressures in
the combustion chamber. You can run the spark plugs, wires and entire ignition from your race car to dial it all in as a
system.
The billet aluminum pressure chamber features individual sight glasses so you can view the spark occur across the gap
of the spark plug. By introducing a gas such as Argon or Carbon Dioxide, you can control how much pressure occurs
within the chamber to replicate the cylinder pressures and see first hand the affects on the plugs. It accepts 3/4” reach,
14mm spark plugs. A high pressure line and 0-450 psi regulator is supplied.
The optional pressure chamber provides you with a look inside your engine’s combustion chamber. You
can adjust the pressure and monitor the changes in the spark plugs and ignition system.
