Page 13 Carmeline 9 Holers 18 Holers 2012 New Member Coffee It is almost time for 2012 Nine Hole Golf! We are hosting a NEW MEMBER COFFEE February 8th, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in the Carmel Ladies Locker Room. If you are new to Carmel, new to the game of golf or a seasoned player and want to enhance your game, now is your chance--come be part of the group! If you cannot attend the coffee but want to join, please contact Susan Hoppe (shoppe@carolina. rr.com). We promise fun, fellowship, lunches, prizes and lots of laughs! End of Season Awards At our December luncheon, our annual 9 Holer Rookie of the Year was awarded to Barbara Handley (top left) while Most Improved went to Susan Belsante (right). Congratulations ladies! The luncheon was a wonderful conclusion to our 2011 "G.R.I.T.S.--Girls Rock in the South" season. A big thank you to Sue Evans and Carla Parks for hosting the lunch as well as for serving as co-presidents this year. Sue and Carla--you did a fantastic job and gave us a successful season! October Event-- Black & Orange Best Ball Holly Lawroski and Nancy Elam stirred up some ghoulishly good fun for the ladies with lots of tricks and treats, as well as helping us raise over $300 and needed items for Hoskins Park Ministry assisting homeless men. Winter Club Mary Dehnert, Susan Belsante, Cindy Schlicksup, Carla Parks and Carla Hudgins in Halloween attire. Carmel’s golf academy is offering a new Winter club for ladies this year with seven weeks of 2-day golf instruction--one day of class and one day on course. Look under the Learning Center tab on the website and click “Adult Groups” to sign up! Directory Changes? Sue Evans will be compiling the new 2012 directory so she needs your current address, phone number and email. Let Sue know if there are any changes from the 2011 directory-- email her at camom123@aol.com or call 704/830-4112. The 18 hole ladies ended their season and bid farewell to "Carmelot" on November 8. Before brunch the ladies invited long-time staff member Hiroko to sit up front and be serenaded with the song " You Are My Sunshine". This was followed by a flash-mob style dance/rap by 8 other ladies to get things rolling. President Carla Hudgins thanked all her board members and presented them with gifts. Former president Barb Nash gave Carla a bound photo book which chronicled the past year for Carla to remember. Thank you so much Carla for making the 2011 season so special!! Other awards and prizes were given during the event. Laura Quillin received Most Improved Golfer and Ellen Vincent was Rookie of the Year.Way to go ladies! Ringer awards were also announced. The ladies tracked their best score on each hole throughout the year on Tuesdays. The women travel to a different host club on a monthly basis starting in April. At the October end of season brunch it was announced that the Carmel women had the highest points tally and brought home a beautiful trophy to be displayed at our club. Resolution Solution It's no secret that the number one resolution for most people is to make fitness a priority and get in shape. Add classes to your routine to keep you on track………January, February and March Class Pass; Unlimited Classes for $180. 2012 Classes Include: Cardio Sculpt: A total body workout that anyone can benefit from. This class combines cardio intervals with shorter deep sculpting and toning intervals. Cardio Sculpt includes the use of stability balls, dumbbells and bands to develop strength, flexibility and balance. Cycle & Sculpt: For those of you who want it all! Hop onto a cycle for 45-55 minutes of high level cardio cycling, 20-30 minutes of challenging total body strength training. Finish with some core work and flexibility training. This workout is guaranteed to please even the most advanced exerciser. Any level is welcome and class can be tailored to meet all individual needs. Yoga: A flowing class linking movements and breath together. Participates will gain core strength, as well as upper body strength while moving from different poses and finding a balance that drives us forward while enjoying the moment. Pure Strength: A total Body Strength class using barbells and dumbells to challenge and utilize every muscle. We Have a Champion! Linda Smith is an American Fitness Professional and Associates certified personal trainer who specializes in exercise, metabolism, weight loss and bodybuilding. On November 5th Linda Smith competed and won two divisions, lightweight and overall, as well as a second place finish in Bodybuilding Master Competition. She has competed in over 20 figure and women's bodybuilding competitions and has won several other awards. Linda has contributed to the fitness industry for over 30 years and believes that the reward of a thing well done is to have Fitness done it! Page 14 Carmeline 2012 Can Be Your Healthiest Year Ever. Let’s Do This Together! Forget the New Year’s Resolutions; the path to a healthier lifestyle begins one little healthy habit at a time. Welcome 2012 with a Healthy Lifestyle Change: Each month this year we will focus on one healthy practice that you may already be doing. There's always room to add just one more! Add a new healthy habit each month and accumulate a healthier you by year-end. Stay tuned for the challenge of the month. January: Get Moving!!! Burn off the past two months of holiday party calories. Increase the amount of aerobic exercise you do. Januarys, Healthy Habit is increasing your aerobic exercise; we are challenging you to start doing thirty minutes of cardiovascular exercise five to six days a week. Split your workouts in half if it’s easier. Performing two smaller workouts that add up to your usual workout for example, two 15- minute routines instead of one 30-minute session still burns the same amount of calories, plus it temporarily revs your metabolism twice instead of once, so your body burns more calories after your workout. February: Keep an Exercise Journal. Writing down what you eat and how much you exercise will provide a reality check on how many calories you are consuming and burning; this will help you focus your workouts in the future. The best way to track your progress is to write each of your workouts down in an exercise journal. Chart every exercise, set, rep, type and duration of cardio, and the date. Your exercise journal can be anything from a notepad, to a piece of computer paper, to a chart you made on the computer. By keeping a journal you have something can go back in time and see exactly how you have been progressing over the past couple weeks, months, and even years. The people who don't keep a journal never know exactly how they are progressing because they have no way of measuring what they accomplished in the past. The time spent writing everything in the journal is well worth the knowledge and progression you will see down the road.
