LODGE MEETINGS
Sept. 14, 2010
Sept. 28, 2010
My fellow members,
Well the long hot summer is
coming to an end. With that we
move into autumn and back to
two lodge meetings a month.
From the Exalted Ruler
Fall also brings us great
weather and some great functions
at the lodge. Keep up to
date with what is happening around the
lodge by reading the Hoofprints and the
bulletin board in the Taproom.
Also, For those who go on line, join Manasquan
Elks Facebook Group. There is
always something going and there is always
work to be done.
Eric Chalakani
Always a big thank you to Banquet
chair Karen and Hoofprints
editor Beth for your hard
work that never ends. Help
when you can and enjoy being
an Elk.
Have fun, be safe and as always,
please try to find the time
to attend lodge meetings.
Look forward to seeing you all around
the lodge...
Fraternally,
Eric Chalakani, ER
The Original Jolly Corks Toast
Now is the hour when Elkdom's tower
is darkened by the shroud of night,
And father time on his silver chime
Tolls off each moment's flight.
In Cloistered halls each Elk recalls
His Brothers where'er they be,
And traces their faces to well-known places
In the annals of memory.
Whether they stand on a foreign land
Or lie in an earthen bed,
Whether they be on the boundless sea
With the breakers of death ahead.
Whate'er their plight on this eerie night
Whate'er their fate may be
Where ever they are be it near or far
They are thinking of you and me.
So drink from the fountain of fellowship
To the Brother who clasped your hand
And wrote your worth in the rock of earth
And your faults upon the sand.
TO OUR ABSENT BROTHERS
WHEREAS: Jerry Lasky was initiated into Benevolent and Protective Order
Of Elks as a member of Manasquan Lodge #2534 on 10/11/1981 and has continued
to be a member of the Order in Good Standing for a period of over 30 years; and
WHEREAS: Jerry Lasky has fulfilled all the requirements of Section 14.260
Paragraph A of the Grand Lodge Statutes, and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that Jerry Lasky be nominated for election to
Life Membership in Manasquan Lodge #2534 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the
United States of America.
Action on this resolution will be taken at the regular meeting on October 26th, 2010.
NATIONAL SERVICE VETERANS COMMITEE
Greetings all. We have a lot to do this month and all hands
should be available as much as possible.
Beginning with September 11th, we have the Retired
Enlisted Assoc of NJ picnic at Sea Girt beginning at noon.
If you're a member come early for the annual meeting at 10
am, as we will be looking for a new president to replace
SFC/RET Joe Gilroy who is retiring after 15 yrs on the job.
Sunday, September 12th is the Army of Hope Picnic at the
Lacey Lodge. It begins at noon and ends at 4 pm. As chairman
of Manasquan, I will be attending.
Friday, September 17th is national POW/ MIA recognition
day. Although no ceremonies are planned please remember
those who are missing.
Sunday, September 19th is a day that the Manasquan Lodge
is proud to be a part of. On this day we will host the
Wounded Warriors for breakfast and a Mass celebrated by
Bishop Smith of Trenton. If anybody remembers last year it
was a very heartwarming experience. Many volunteers are
needed as we are expecting at least 45 Warriors.
Saturday, September 25th is the M*A*S*H picnic. Our current
district chairperson, Lori Rathgeber is trying to reestablish
the picnic in honor of our own Jimmy Goddard.
Tickets are $20 before the date and $25 at the gate. A full
barbecue is planned and there will be two (2) bands for music.
See the flyer on the next page.
The month of October leaves a little breathing room to get
ready for the Annual Veterans Day Dance at the lodge on
November 6th.
Also during the month of November the Veterans Committee
will host the Sunday Happy Hour. Volunteers are
needed to help with this endeavor every Sunday.
See you in the lodge and remember the Vet!
Joe Bigley
Chairperson

A MESSAGE FROM THE SPECIAL CHIDLREN’S COMMITEE
The last 30 days have been very busy for the Special
Children’s Committee.
We had our annual “Summer Party” for Friends of
Special Athletes and the Special Children of our
community at the end of July. Thank you Jackie
and all the other committee members for your help
with this event. A good time was had by all.
The corn sale was an incredible success as usual
and the weather even cooperated this year. A
heartfelt thank you Jerry Lasky - we could not do
this without you. This also could not be done without
the many volunteers who came out from the
lodge to help with this event. Our gratitude goes
out to you as well.
Last but not least, THE DAY AT THE BEACH. What
can we say? It was personally one of the best I have
attended. The campers from Camp Moore and children
from the Point Pleasant Middle school could
not have asked for a better day. The weather held
up and so did our many, many volunteers.
The Special Children’s Committee worked long and
hard to make this day a success. Thank you so
much for your dedication. However, an event of
this proportion takes more than just a committee.
The membership stepped up big (as always) to help
make this day shine. And beyond that the whole
community pitched in – sometimes it really “does
take a village”.
We hope you are all as proud of these accomplishments
as we are and look forward to your continued
support for the future.
Our sincerest appreciation,
Carol Butti & Jim Caruso
