My fellow members,
From the Exalted Ruler
I hope you all enjoyed a safe, happy
New Years. With the new year
works we do as Elks.
If you have been down to lodge recently,
you may have noticed that in the Tap
Room - there are two new flat screen
TVs hanging on the walls. I would like
to thank the donor of these, Billy
Freund, for the most generous gift.
Also, thank you to the Santa's who attended
our Christmas parties. You know
Eric Chalakani
who you are... There are plenty
of great events coming up and a
lot of hard work to be done and
fun to be had. Please continue
to read the Hoofprints to stay
abreast of comings and goings.
Beth Tracey puts a lot of work
into it to make it a good and
BPOE 2534
NATIONAL SERVICE VETERANS COMMITEE
On behalf of the committee, I hope that everyone had a
very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
I would like to thank everyone who has donated their time and
labor to helping the Veterans Committee this past year.
On Monday, Dec. 6 th the memorial museum at the Sea Girt
base held a luncheon for those Veterans who recorded their
history of their service. We, as Elks, should be very proud. For
the first time, the museum’s directors decided to give an award
to an organization that supports the Veteran Services. It is the
first such award in thirty years that depicts a Minuteman Soldier
with a plaque and a signed booklet. These were left on the
bar in the game room. As chairperson of the Veterans Committee,
I was extremely proud to have received these on behalf of
the Elks of 2534.
The Committee has donated $1,500 to Lyons Hospital for the
music and picnics for the Veterans. Additionally, we provided
Vet Haven with $1,500 for the same use and $2,000 to provide
for a new room for a Veteran that needs counseling before returning
to civilian life.
As of this past year, the fundraising on behalf of the Veterans
has been very negative. So to help correct this we will have the
Golf Outing in May on Friday the 20 th at Gamblers Ridge beginning
at 8:30 am with a luncheon at the lodge and prizes as
before. This will, hopefully, gain us a few more golfers. We can
accommodate up to 144 total in “A” and “B” flights.
We will also run a 50/50 at $50/ticket to help defray our yearly
costs, with a maximum of 500 tickets. We cannot rely on the
game machine to keep us, and all the charities afloat. The
drawing for this 50/50 would be held at the Veterans Dinner
Dance in November, on Saturday the 12 th .
Our commitments for the year include Memorial Day, Flag
Day, July 4 th , in September we have the Wounded Warriors,
Veterans Day ceremonies in November and the dinner dance.
November is the month that the Veterans Committee supplies
“snacks” on Sunday afternoons at 4 pm. We need more help on
this….
During the year one or more committee members visit the
homes and hospitals to visit with the Veterans. This is not only
what our lodge does, the Southeast District does the same and
we are also involved in many of their other programs.
I have left 50 of the “land of the free-----because of the brave”
pins with our Secretary, Tom Tracey. They cost $3 and can be
purchased through Tom or his assistant, Nancy Newman on
Monday or Tuesday in the Secretary’s office or by leaving them
a note in member’s mailbox.
The funds from these pins go to the seed funds for Veterans.
As always, “REMEMBER THE VET” and say thank
you!
Elks' Camp Moore’s Mission
Tucked away in the hills of the Ramapo Mountains, Elks Camp Moore offers a fun filled vacation away from
home for children with special needs. A week at Elks Camp Moore is a remarkable experience not soon to be
forgotten.
The primary goal of the camp is to further develop the recreational and social skills of each child. In a relaxed
and accepting atmosphere, each camper experiences new adventures, lasting friendships, and opportunities
that promote independence and greater self-confidence.
At camp each child is challenged to try new things or to improve on what they already know. We encourage
each child to do as much as they can for themselves and by themselves. The guidance of a friendly and understanding
counselor is always near.
Cooley’s Anemia Foundation’s Statement of Purpose
