EXPERTS Kick-off Meeting
in the Philippines
During the period of October 3-6, 2010, Mr. Somsakdi Tabtimthong, Director,
International Affairs Division, participated in the EXPERT: Exchange by Promoting
Quality Education, Research and Training in South and South-East Asia, at SEARCA,
the Philippines. The EXPERTS Meeting is a new program under ERASMUS MUNDUS Lot
11 comprising 20 partners in Asia and Europe and other 4 associate partners aiming
to strengthen academic cooperation and student mobility among all members in the
following areas: Agricultural Sciences, Architecture, Urbanism, Regional Planning,
Engineering, Technology, Geography, Geology, Humanities, Law, Mathematics,
Informatics, Medical Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences.
International Graduate Student
Orientation Day
On October 11, 2010, the Graduate School held
the Graduate School Orientation Day for the new
international students enrolled in the first semester
of the academic year 2010 at the meeting room 1,
7 th floor, the Graduate School building, Bangkok.
First, Associate Professor Dr. Gunjana Theeragool,
Dean of the Graduate School, opened the orientation
and welcomed all participants to the Graduate School
and gave all participants a chance to introduce
themselves. Later, the Dean had Assistant Professor
Dr. Nuchanata Mungkung, Deputy Dean for Academic
Affairs, given a presentation on visions and
objectives, the organizational structure, as well
as the administrative team. Dr. Nuchanata further
presented some valuable statistics and charts.
She also elaborated on the characteristics of the
distinct programs of doctoral degrees, master’s
degrees, and other diplomas and also focused on the English proficiency examination regulation as
well as the transfer of TOEFL or IELTS results. The Deputy Dean moreover provided guidance for the
students on the development of their study plan, as to allow students to successfully complete
their studies within the timeframes specified.
Next, she further introduced the students to the Graduate School services, the thesis library,
the English editing service, and the Student Exchange Program in cooperation with the Louisiana
State University (LSU). Moreover, she introduced English activities provided by the Graduate
school, such as English conversation groups, the English Oral Examination Practice for Doctoral
Degree Students, the English writing workshops, and the Brown Bag Lunch Seminars operated
by an English Editor of the Graduate School, Mr. Sandro (Alex) Kunz. Then Dr. Nuchanata invited
questions and offered her assistance with issues put forward by the students.
Finally, all students had a chance to tour all sections of the Graduate School. On the ground
floor, the students had an opportunity to look at the exhibition of the awarded thesis and to
familiarize themselves with the student service counter as well as the queuing system. In addition,
students were given an opportunity to get used to with the various forms which they are likely
to encounter during the course of their studies. At the end of the Orientation Day, students took
a group photo together.
