heavy plants which were required for the construction
of the foundation using other mechanical means,
hand-dug caissons were being used in this case.

erected to take up the lateral pressure of soil while
doing the demolition.
5. Because of the inevitable sectioning and phasing
arrangement involved in the demolition of the old
basement, and, at the same time, to replace it with a
new structure, complicated planning and construction
jointing provisions were required.
