#31 Austin Ferrell and #55Jason Killam
ran nose-to-tail to the finish.
Karts scrambled for positions at the
start of heat two; Ferrell led the flight
for a lap before Spanel took the lead.
Spanel held the spot to the finish to earn
a pole start for the feature. Lindgren and
Ferrell were again second and third.
Feature
Spanel scored a Hat Trick in Thursday
night’s competition with wins in
both his heats and a Feature victory. At
green Lindgren passed front row starter
Heitz to run second by the time they hit
the backstretch. Buller and Ferrell followed
through to score third and fourth;
Heitz squeezed back in to score fifth in
the early laps. Before
the finish #07 John
Emerson challenged
for and won the fifth
spot from Heitz.
Spanel grabbed his
Duffy a turn ahead
of Lindgren.
Open Midget
Sponsored by Failor Farms
#33 Jayce Jenkins also scored a hat
trick Thursday night, winning both
heats and the Open Midget feature
event.
Jenkins dominated the first heat,
driving out front from start to finish
and dodging lap traffic to take the
checkers. #2 Steve Failor ran second for
most of the race, tailed by #5 Patrick
Parks. Failor and Parks were side-byside
under the white flag, with Parks
edging past Failor to score second at
the finish.
Jenkins started the second heat at
the rear, passing through traffic as laps
went down. By the halfway Jenkins was
second, and trying to close the gap on
race leader Failor. Lap traffic made it
interesting; Jenkins took the lead from
Failor just after they passed a lapped
midget, then pulled away for the win.
Failor scored second. Behind them #9
Ryan Navratil and #12 Daniel VanGilst
battled for third place points; Navirati
was third at the finish.
Feature
Jenkins continued his domination on
the track, leading his heat from start to
finish, and lapping a large part of the
field before taking the checkers. Failor
ran second to the finish, edging up on
Jenkins, but never getting close enough
to execute a pass. Parks ran third for
the duration, while
VanGilst and Navirati
swapped spots;
VanGilst sealed the
deal on fourth place
near the halfway
signal.
Flight A
First Heat
#48 Woodrow Carpenter led through
the first lap, with #1 Jerod Ballhagen and
#88 Cole Ferguson right behind him. In
the second go-around Ballhagen went
low and drove to the lead. Ferguson,
#15 Chance Titus and #4 Spencer Hill
followed him through. Top contenders
stayed nose-to-tail, with all looking
for a shot to pass. When a yellow came
out, Titus used the re-start to go around
Ballhagen and score in the lead. Hill
followed him through the hole, leaving
Bahllhagen and Ferguson third and
fourth. Once out front 15 pulled out a
bit. Into lap eight scoring Ballhagen and
Ferguson teamed up to freight-train
past second place Hill; Ferguson kept
up the momentum to pass Ballhagen
and score behind race winner Titus at
the final flag.
Second Heat
With a win to his credit, Titus took
the track for second heat action, but
went out of the race when karts spun
in turn three on the first lap of the contest.
When they went green flag racing
again the field was led by Ballhagen,
Ferguson and Carpenter. Early in the
race Carpenter went around Ferguson
to run second; Ferguson saw a hole and
went past both Carpenter and Ballhagen
to grab the lead. In lap six Ballhagen
got back around Carpenter to score
second. With just a couple of laps left
Ferguson, Ballhagen and Carpenter ran
nearly side-by-side. Into scoring under
the white it was Ballhagen out front; he
held the spot to score the win a lap later.
Carpenter was second, Ferguson third.
