RECYCLE All of the
Recycling Centres in
Angus accept car batteries.
These will be dismantled and the
components reused.
Dead rechargeable batteries can often be
recycled by returning them to the
manufacturer – check Sort-It for details.
Recycling Centres in Angus now accept
all types of household batteries.

REDUCE Reduce the number of batteries
you use by using mechanical power such
as wind-up radios and torches, or toys
that do not require batteries; solar power
such as garden lights and mains power.
Suppliers of mechanical and solarpowered
products are listed on Sort-It
Remember to switch off batterypowered
appliances when not in use.
Please note: rechargeable batteries are not
recommended for use in low drain
appliances such as smoke alarms and
carbon monoxide alarms.
REUSE Rechargeable batteries are sold
by a number of local retailers.
RECYCLE Some jewellers will accept
used silver oxide (button cell) batteries
for recycling. Please check before
depositing your batteries.
We use approximately 41 million
batteries in Scotland each year and
the vast majority of these are sent to
landfill (SEPA, 2005).
By 2012, all EU countries must
collect at least 25% of household
batteries for recycling, and this will
increase to at least 45% by 2016. You
