In summer, dry your clothes outside
rather than using a tumble dryer.
Use a pan which is the same size as
the cooker ring to prevent heat loss.
Use a lid on saucepans where
possible, so the contents heat up
faster and require less energy.
When using a kettle, only boil as
much water as you need.
Consider turning the thermostat on
your hot water tank down to 60
degrees centigrade which is a
comfortable temperature for most
people and will save on your
heating costs.
If you have a standard shower it will
use around 40% of the water
required for a bath.
Envelopes
REDUCE Reduce envelope use by
rejecting unwanted mail. Consider
whether an email would do to save on
both envelopes and paper.
REUSE Keep used envelopes for reuse.
Reuse labels can be purchased from a
number of websites and retailers.
Purchase recycled envelopes. Visit Sort-It
or see p.44 for details.
RECYCLE White envelopes (with or
without windows) can be recycled in
the green box or at the Paper point at
Recycling Centres.
Currently, brown envelopes and paper
cannot be recycled because the paper
fibres are difficult to breakdown during
the pulping process. You can recycle
small amounts of brown paper in a
home compost bin.
