The Confederation <strong>of</strong> <strong>India</strong>n Industry is happy to be associated with the <strong>High</strong> <strong>Commission</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>India</strong>, <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Lanka</strong>,<br />
<strong>in</strong> br<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g out the guidebook “<strong>Do<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>Bus<strong>in</strong>ess</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Lanka</strong>: Handbook for <strong>India</strong>n <strong>Bus<strong>in</strong>ess</strong>”. I believe<br />
this handbook comes at an opportune moment and will further boost the high-growth trajectory <strong>of</strong> bilateral<br />
economic cooperation.Through our MOU Partners <strong>in</strong> <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Lanka</strong>, the Ceylon Chamber <strong>of</strong> Commerce, the<br />
Board <strong>of</strong> Investment <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Lanka</strong> and <strong>High</strong> <strong>Commission</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>India</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Colombo</strong>, CII has built a strong and close<br />
partnership with bus<strong>in</strong>ess <strong>in</strong>stitutions <strong>in</strong> <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Lanka</strong>. We work with them to host a range <strong>of</strong> activities that br<strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>India</strong>n and <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Lanka</strong>n enterprises together.<br />
From the early 90’s, CII and The Ceylon Chamber <strong>of</strong> Commerce (CCC) formed a Jo<strong>in</strong>t Task Force, which<br />
identified specific areas <strong>of</strong> cooperation between our two countries. With the objective to implement the Jo<strong>in</strong>t<br />
Task Force recommendations, CII and CCC have formed a Jo<strong>in</strong>t Economic Council (JEC). Members <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Council are <strong>in</strong>dustrialists from both the countries. The JEC takes up issues related to trade and <strong>in</strong>vestments<br />
with the concerned authorities <strong>in</strong> <strong>India</strong> and <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Lanka</strong>.<br />
The Trade Agreement between <strong>India</strong> and <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Lanka</strong>, it has accelerated the development <strong>of</strong> national economies,<br />
promot<strong>in</strong>g mutually beneficial bilateral trade and strengthen<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>tra-regional economic cooperation. Many<br />
lead<strong>in</strong>g <strong>India</strong>n companies have <strong>in</strong>vestments <strong>in</strong> <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Lanka</strong> that are not only cater<strong>in</strong>g to the <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Lanka</strong>n market<br />
but export<strong>in</strong>g their products to <strong>India</strong> and other countries. There are many opportunities for <strong>India</strong>n <strong>in</strong>dustry<br />
and their counterparts <strong>in</strong> <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Lanka</strong> to work together particularly <strong>in</strong> sectors like IT, Infrastructure, Tourism,<br />
SMEs and Food Process<strong>in</strong>g etc. CII supports <strong>in</strong>ternational and domestic bus<strong>in</strong>esses <strong>in</strong> a number <strong>of</strong> ways,<br />
<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g through trade fairs, conferences, network<strong>in</strong>g platforms and bus<strong>in</strong>ess development services. We<br />
thank the <strong>High</strong> <strong>Commission</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>India</strong>, <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Lanka</strong>, for associat<strong>in</strong>g us with this handbook, and look forward to a<br />
susta<strong>in</strong>ed partnership <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>tensify<strong>in</strong>g bilateral economic cooperation between <strong>India</strong> and <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Lanka</strong>.<br />
