The City of Corona is conveniently<br />

located 25 miles from Southern California<br />

family theme parks and 45 miles from local<br />

beaches and Los Angeles in western Riverside<br />

County. The City limit encompasses 39.2 square miles and is<br />

home to a population of approximately 153,649 residents. A city<br />

whose heritage spans more than a century, Corona has emerged as<br />

an ethnically diverse community, where a significant percentage of the<br />

population is made up of young, well educated families.<br />

The Corona community boasts many amenities that provide a first-rate<br />

quality of life for residents. The City has more than 394 acres of parks,<br />

with sports fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, tennis courts, two<br />

skateparks and an outdoor pool.<br />

The Corona Public Library and the Fender Museum of Music and the Arts<br />

provide cultural and educational programming, and the Senior Center is a<br />

hub of activity with programs, workshops and social gatherings. The City<br />

also operates a recreational airport.<br />

Corona’s industrial base has played an important role in the growth of the city<br />

and its employee base. Corona’s economy is strong and getting stronger!<br />

More than 82,000 people work here. Our retail and commercial areas are<br />

expanding and office development is booming. Corona has more than 30<br />

million square feet of industrial space and more than 3 million square feet<br />

of office space existing, under construction, or planned.<br />

THE POSITION AND<br />

The City is seeking a pro-active, results oriented professional to fill its<br />

Safety Division Manager position. The ideal candidate will have exceptional<br />

interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive<br />

relationships within a diverse employee<br />

population. This position reports to<br />

the Deputy Human Resources<br />

Director and will be a key<br />

member of the Human Resources<br />

management team. The individual<br />

selected for this position is responsible<br />

for the management of the<br />

Safety Division for the City and will<br />

partner with staff at all levels to tackle<br />

safety sensitive issues.<br />

It is important that the selected candidate<br />

has the ability to understand,<br />

interpret, and apply Cal/OSHA and<br />

City policies, rules and regulations.<br />

Cross departmental relationships<br />

will be essential to maintain in order<br />

to provide assistance with safety<br />

programs, and assisting in implementing<br />

recommendations.<br />

The ideal candidate will be responsible<br />

for analyzing legislation and<br />

regulatory changes, keeping current<br />

on new developments, and incorporating<br />

mandated regulatory changes<br />

governing safe work practices and<br />

resources such as high risk equipment,<br />

occupations with potential<br />

for substantial accident or injuries<br />

and hazardous materials usage and<br />

storage. Excellent analytical abilities<br />

as well as strong writing and presentation<br />

skills are essential to success in<br />

this role.<br />

The primary responsibility of the<br />

Safety Division Manager will be to<br />

oversee the Safety Program for the<br />

City and supervise assigned staff.<br />

The position will analyze workplace<br />

accidents and provide instruction<br />

and advice to supervisors and employees<br />

on prevention methods,<br />

plan and conduct a safety education<br />

program, organize and coordinate<br />

appropriate alcohol and drug testings,<br />

serve as principal advisor to


departments for all safety issues,<br />

advise department of the impact<br />

of OSHA regulations,<br />

and ensure compliance of<br />

various safety orders.<br />

The incoming Safety Division<br />

Manager must have four years<br />

of progressively responsible<br />

administrative, supervisory or<br />

advanced technical experience<br />

managing or supervising staff<br />

engaged in industrial engineering, safety<br />

engineering or occupational safety and health<br />

inspection. A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Safety Engineering,<br />

Occupational Safety and Health or other closely related field is<br />

required.<br />

The<br />

COMPENSATION<br />

The annual salary range for the incoming Safety Division Manager is<br />

$83,244 - $101,616 and is dependent upon qualifications. The City also<br />

offers an attractive benefits package including:<br />

Retirement – 2.7% @ 55 formula (the CALPERS contribution<br />

is 8% of the employee’s base salary. For employees<br />

hired on or after January 1, 1999, the City pays 5% and<br />

the employee pays 3% for a total contribution of 8%.)<br />

The City does not participate in Social Security and the<br />

City pays the employees mandatory contribution to the<br />

Medicare Program.<br />

Annual Leave & Holidays – 27 (8 hour) working<br />

days (216 hours) of paid leave are earned after one year<br />

of employment, with additional days earned, based on length<br />

of service, up to 36 (8 hour) days. There are 12 (8 hour) paid<br />

holidays (96 hours) per calendar year.<br />

Annual Leave Buyback – Eligible employees may “buy back” a<br />

maximum of 160 hours of annual leave once each year.<br />

Disability & Life Insurance – Long term disability insurance<br />

provided free to each employee. Also, a term life insurance<br />

policy is provided to each employee equal to 5½ times the<br />

employee’s annual basic earnings to a maximum, of<br />

$750,000.00.<br />

premiums are provided. A monthly<br />

IRC plan contribution in an amount<br />

equal to the premium payment for<br />

Blue Shield family coverage (currently<br />

$1517.36 per month). There<br />

are a variety of plans to choose from.<br />

Option to waive medical insurance,<br />

indexed at 2003 PERS Choice rate<br />

equivalent to your current coverage<br />

(i.e. single $296.00, employee<br />

+ one $596.00, family $770.00).<br />

Employee Assistance And<br />

Counseling Program – This is a<br />

comprehensive program designed<br />

to help employees and their<br />

family members find direction<br />

in solving personal<br />

and/or emotional<br />

problems.<br />

Direct Deposit –<br />

A free checking<br />

account and checks<br />

are available with<br />

Corona.<br />

Flexible Spending Plan –<br />

Each employee may contribute to<br />

either a medical reimbursement<br />

account or dependent care account<br />

to pay for unreimbursed medical<br />

expenses and/or dependent care<br />

expenses with pre-tax dollars. The<br />

flexible benefit plan is offered at the<br />

time of hire and at each open<br />

enrollment period.


Deferred Compensation Plan – Employees hired<br />

on or after January 1, 1999 shall receive a payment into<br />

their deferred compensation plan account of $150.00 per<br />

quarter plus $150.00 per quarter to be deposited into a<br />

Retirement Health Savings Account.<br />

Longevity Pay – After 5 years of service $1,400.00 annually.<br />

After 10 years of service $1,600.00 annually. After 15 years of<br />

service $1,800.00 annually. After 20 years of service $2,000.00<br />

annually.<br />

Tuition Reimbursement – The City shall reimburse for books<br />

and tuition for college-level courses leading to a job related degree or<br />

certificate. Tuition is reimbursed at a rate equivalent to the California<br />

State University Fee Schedule.<br />

Bi-Lingual Pay – Upon certification and departmental needs, 2 ½ %<br />

increase of base pay is awarded for the use of Spanish language on the<br />

job.<br />
