1190 A Rococo style sterling silver punchbowl, Whiting & Co<br />

Probably second half 19th century, with maker’s mark and further marked<br />

‘’Sterling/3627/20 1/2 pints’’, and inscribed ‘d868888’, the circular body rimmed with a<br />

foliate, lattice and C-scroll border, on a pierced foliate-decorated circular foot, with<br />

gilt-washed interior, monogrammed to exterior ‘’BSB’’(?), 8.5’’’’ H x 15’’ Dia., 100.1 oz<br />

troy approximately, est:$4000/6000<br />

Note: The present piece does not bear a date mark. The Whiting Manufacturing<br />

Company, incorporated in 1866, did not use date marks until 1905. Condition: Good<br />

condition overall. Scratches, marks, tarnishing and rubbing commensurate with age.<br />

Rim of foot very slightly bent along a two-inch section. Scattered dings and small<br />

dents to body, most notably a shallow one-inch dent to mid-section. Rubbing and<br />

marks to gilt wash interior. Polish residue to exterior crevices and to underside. Your<br />

20th century, New York, marked to underside of shaped stand ‘’Tiffany & Co. / Sterling<br />

Silver’’ and further marked ‘’S1823’’, the collars each marked ‘’Sterling’’, with a<br />

central telescoping stem, angular handle, and circular lids, fitted with a pair of ovoid<br />

diamond-pattern cut glass decanters, accompanied by a heart-shaped lock and key,<br />

weighable silver 11.6 oz troy approximately, overall, 10’’ H x 8’’ W x 4’’ D, est:$700/900<br />

Provenance: Private Collection, Ventura, CA. Condition: Each bottle: 8.75’’ H x 3’’<br />

Dia. Good condition overall. Light scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing to silver<br />

commensurate with age. Light scratches and a few scattered, minute chips to ridges<br />

of patterned sections of glass. Lock and key and sliding stem function smoothly.<br />
