E. Areas in which research is done
My research has spanned several areas that include resiliency development
with certain traumatized populations such as runaway and homeless youth
and burn survivors and service-learning in social work education. Many of
these themes have overlapped between scholarship, teaching and service
as demonstrated in my research projects in service-learning and
successful application in innovative and sustained course development and
implementation. My interest in service-learning has extended to servicelearning
in international settings. A current new direction is in the area of
the expressive arts as both a teaching tool for social work students as well
as a tool in the treatment of trauma with children and adults. The common
thread is a focus on resiliency both in social work students’ professional
identity development and an integration of a strengths-based focus via
experiential learning processes.
