27 10th Anniversary During the 2010/2011 Season, Goodman Theatre held several events celebrating its 10th anniversary as an anchor of the North Loop Theatre District and its 85th year as a cultural force in Chicago. 10th Anniversary Season Press Conference Thursday, June 3, 2010 Cadillac Palace The press conference honored Mayor Richard M. Daley for his vision and leadership in establishing the North Loop Theatre District. Representatives from Chicago’s theater community as well as the National Endowment for the Arts came together for this special tribute. Season Opening Celebration Sunday, September 26, 2010 The Art Institute of Chicago/Goodman Theatre Launching the 10th Anniversary Celebration, the evening began at the Modern Wing of the Art Institute, site of the original Goodman Theatre, followed by the opening night performance of Voltaire’s Candide, adapted and directed by the Goodman’s Manilow Resident Director Mary Zimmerman. Re-Dedication Ceremony Monday, November 22, 2010 Goodman Theatre The Goodman held a ceremony with Mayor and Mrs. Richard M. Daley commemorating the theater’s “Decade on Dearborn.” The event began with a reading of the speech that August Wilson gave at the building’s inauguration in 2001 by a corps of Chicago actors including (Center picture, left to right) Regina Taylor, Steve Pickering, Ernest Perry, Jr., Henry Godinez, Mary Beth Fisher and Brian Dennehy. Goodman leadership then paid tribute to the visionaries who made the new theater a reality and specifically recognized the contributions of Richard and Maggie Daley by making them Honorary Trustees of the theater and dedicating a pair of theater seats in their names. One Enchanted Decade Gala Saturday, May 21, 2011 Goodman Theatre/ The Fairmont Chicago The “One Enchanted Decade” gala featured the Emmy–, Golden Globe– and Tony Award– nominated Matthew Morrison in the Albert Theatre followed by dinner and dancing at The Fairmont Chicago. More than 850 guests celebrated the theater’s 10th anniversary at its 170 North Dearborn Street location, with proceeds going toward the Goodman’s signature Education and Community Engagement programs.
